Hi ..
The interview was good ...around 45 mins .. we discussed about the my career progression, motivation for going for MBA, work experience, daily work, leadership experience, personal achievements, contribution towards Mannheim school, social responsibility a situational case study was also given by the interviewer, etc.

I felt it was quite long but was fine and got selected to go through the next round i.e case study.

Let me know if you need any information.

I would like to understand why you apply at MBS in general and why an MBA in Germany? I am a German and do not see the benefit of doing a MBA in Germany (at least full time) for career pushing.

Happy to hear your stories...

MSoS, please elighten me why you say so.

I am not comparing it with HBS or Stanford...but they arent bad either..it depends on what you define as a career push.

That is why i have asked. I want to understand your thoughts applying at a German Business School. I do not say that it is bad or can not push your career, but i believe that you can most likely push your career with good projects as well.

Hi Ani086
It should be fairly straight forward..I would suggest looking up past history of the product, the company, cultural preferences, etc. Research external references , white papers, regulatory body reports, etc. Do include your references, make adaptations, etc. Why dont you check out publiications by BCG, Booz , etc...they can provide a lot of ideas on which you can build your analysis. Always helpful if you can convert your ideas into flowcharts, graphs, etc...should be easier to explain your case during the interview. They just want to see if you are logical...no rocket science expected. Just show that you understand the case and the relevant problems. That should do the trick..good luck

Hi jinunike

Thanks for ur advice. I have successfully passed the case study analysis and have been now invited for the final selection interview. Could you please share ur experience about the final interview ? Mainly how was the interview, what questions were asked ? was it purely based on the case study ? The mail says interview would last for 60 mins ..is it really that long ?

The second interview will be a discussion of the case- your methodology, concepts, how you reached the conclusions,etc...I guess an hour will feel rather short. In my case, the coversation went on for an additional 45 min..There will also be some questions on your career plan...what you expect, german employment scene, etc. Definitely a good opportunity to clear whatever questions u have in general about the program, your career possibilities in Germany after the job, etc.

Cheers and good luck...hope to see you in Mannheim!

Why? I mean, okay, there is no long MBA tradition in good old Germany. But as the third or fourth largest economy in the world, is it necessary to go to a UK or US b.school ?
I am also considering MBS apart from some b.schools in UK.

hi jinunike,

Had my final selection interview today ...it was fine ..though fumbled on a question or two ..when they asked in depth about the case study ....overall it was fine ...fingers crossed !!! :) Any idea if the selection would be entirely on how u perform in the final interview or is it the mix of ur performance in each round !!! The interviewer had good views abt my case study analysis ....but I felt that when she went into details ..i kinda did not give satisfactory answer :( !!!

MBS is the best B-school in Germany and is regarded highly by the employers in Germany. Though the MBA program started off quite recently, it is affiliated to University of Mannheim which is a very old university and has been involved in management education for years, so there are good netwroking opportunities available. The faculty is world class and the course content is also appealing with 5 different tracks to choose from.

I contacted one of the current student of MBS ..and yes he too agreed on the fact that MBA is certainly new to German companies but things are changing and the scene is getting better. Personally, I believe that German B-schools will now start getting recognised internationally as all of the schools are trying hard to put themselves on the world map in order to compete with other schools and in future MBA programs from germany will be recognised. And in the current economic scenario of Europe, Germany seems to be safe bet as compared to other european nations, so if someone is willing to do MBA in Europe then I guess the healthy economy of Germany would certainly help.
