Hello:
I was wondering if folks here can help me decide how should I go about doing a full time MBA for myself.
I recently finished my PhD in Business administration from a top 10 university in my country, and have 8 years of work experience- 3 years in business/1 year as an internal audit national level Firm/3 years as a faculty for a top ranked college/now 2 years at (international)prestigious LSE programme as faculty
I have completed my CA (one of the toughest exams in Accounting & Finance) in my country and been a gold medalist all throughout in PhD and university at an international level along with Harvard University youth programmes along with being a university student athlete.
I also have started my own National level E- learning Centre which I will be making an NPO/Trust now. I am also associated with a social entrepreneurship international organisation.
I also am a mentor and speaker and give talks at colleges and institutes
I am starting to prepare for GMAT now and hoping to start applying this year at the earliest.
Now I wish to go into consulting and do MBA
I only want to do full time MBA from top university USA preferably
Also I'm getting offers into corporate now so
1)should I continue as faculty until MBA admissions or
2)leave my faculty job now ,work corporate one year until MBA admissions
My other questions are:
1) How should I go about my journey into a Top full time MBA program in usa
2) I heard MBA values diversity so am I having good chance from a top MBA school
3)How difficult is it to get into consulting/leadership position if I don't have enough corporate work experience and there's been a gap in industry experience before my teaching
2) What GMAT score should I target if I want to apply to top 10 schools?
3) Also, I was wondering if anyone has a take on scholarships, how should I go about applying for these and are there specific ones targeted for individuals with advanced degrees like myself?

To address your question about beginning your journey to a top full-time MBA program, you are already taking the first step by reaching out! The MBA application process requires a lot of effort but with adequate preparation, you can maximize your chances of success. Thinking about diversity, it is true that MBA programs want diverse, well-rounded classes. That said, a lot also depends on your personal story, work experience, MBA goals, etc.
Your concerns regarding your lack of corporate experience and leadership are understandable. However, you can demonstrate strong leadership outside of the workplace as well, such as in your extracurriculars. I suggest looking for an organization where you can step up, or exploring options to expand your role at an existing organization.
While it is hard to give an exact score that you should break on the GMAT, aiming for around a 730 will be key for these top programs.

Hi Varun!
I think the first question you need to ask yourself and which adcom will definitely ask when they review your application is why do you need an MBA after getting a PhD in Business Administration. The coursework in an MBA program is going to be of masters level when you have already tackled PhD level coursework. There are definitely legitimate reasons for getting an MBA at this stage of your career but you need to articulate them well in your application.
On a similar note, the switch to corporate (if you end up going that route) has to make sense in the overall scheme of things. I would encourage you to look critically at what makes more sense for your post MBA goals based on your current profile.
In terms of GMAT, a higher score is always more helpful. Look at the average GMAT for your target schools and add 20 points to be strongly competitive as a candidate. Scholarships are often dependent on GMAT and a higher GMAT would help you there as well.
