Here's my background:
Female 28 years old, Permanent Resident (Eastern Europe native)
Graduated in '99 with BSBA degree (major Finance) from a top U.S. school (Washington University) (GPA around 3.7/4.0) (internship in Germany)
Worked for an Investment Bank for 2 years; then worked for a company in a finance department (M&A) for 4 years (ongoing)
I've been thinking about MBA but I'm not sure exactly what I want to do post-MBA. I believe I need the degree because I want to stay competitive in case I want to switch jobs or in case I need to take a break to start a family (something all women have to think of). I don't really want to do M&A any more but I like finance/valuations. I know I don't want to do marketing (not a type A personality). I think I could benefit from more accounting classes but I don't want to just do accounting.
Should I go part time or full time? What schools should I consider? How can I explore different professional paths?
While you certainly have the experinece and academics to go for an MBA, you also need some clear goals. You lack the latter, and I don't think you should pursue an MBA without them.
Talk to people in the finance/valuation areas and find out their educational background. Ask them some of the following questions: How can you move into those areas? Do you need an MBA? would you do better with a masters in finance? Do you just need to take some accounting classes?
I think you need more information before you can make a decision.
Good luck!
