Would mba in UC Davis / SMU Cox be better or MEM in duke / north western ?

MBA is always a better choice if you are looking for a managerial position. Otherwise, the specialized knowledge about your interest in MEM will give you similar results.
Choosing any degree of MBA and MEM solely depends upon your post-grad work goals.

Hey Pre97, MBA and MEM are both great degrees.

MBA is a management centered degree, and MEM is more focused on engineering.

As consulting is your end goal, MBA would be ideal for you. MBA as a degree will equip you with practical knowledge of the field as well as business knowledge.
Do let me know the thought process behind doing MEM as an alternative to MBA, as they have very different end goals.

As for the schools you are aiming for, UC Davis and SMU Cox have great MBA programs.
