Okay.. I did not get any reply from them and so I decided to call..... This is what they told me... "Since you're from India, you have to take the TOEFL regardless of having completed your undergraduate in English."... Guess I'll be missing R1 then... I've mailed McCombs Admissions again just to confirm though... Regarding the transcripts, I go a different answer... They told me "As long as your transcripts show your marks for all 8 semester, it shouldn't be a problem"...... Confusing.. :?

I found this on their website:

TOEFL or IELTS Waivers
The TOEFL and IELTS pertain only to international applicants who have submitted applications; U.S. citizens and permanent residents do not need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score. A waiver of the TOEFL or IELTS is automatically granted (no request needed) if you are an international applicant and have earned an undergraduate degree in a country where the official language is English (not just an English-speaking institution or a country where English is spoken).

In order to request a TOEFL or IELTS waiver you must submit a Texas MBA application and meet one of the following conditions:
• You have lived and worked fulltime in the U.S. or in a country where English is the official language for at least two of the past four years.
• You hold a master's degree from a college or university located in the U.S. or from a country where English is the official language.
You were educated solely in English for your undergraduate and/or prior graduate degree.

If you do not meet any of these conditions, you are required to submit the TOEFL or IELTS exam. If you meet the conditions above, please check the appropriate box requesting the waiver in the test score section of your application.

Check the underlined part. I think we're OK.

Man! This is extremely ambiguous...!

MacFauz and kaustubhkul - Guys, do let us know what you'd do ultimately (re in terms of taking TOEFL)...?

By the way, are you guys from IIT? Then I think you can go ahead without TOEFL - no issue at all.

No man, I'm from BITS. I plan to write to my college and ask for a stamped letter (& also fresh transcripts) saying that the medium of instruction was English throughout engineering. I am quite sure this should suffice.

My UG was at Anna University and my consolidated mark sheet clearly says "Medium Of Instruction : English".

The adcom keep saying to give it some time and I guess that is what I will be doing..... I'm yet to pay the application fee... So maybe one week of waiting after paying the fees and uploading the transcripts should get things moving... :)

Hi All,

I have a couple of doubts on McCombs application.

1. Do we need to send the hard copy of transcripts to the college as part of application process or we just need to upload them (It's not very clear from the website).

2. What are you guys doing for the English language test. Did anyone get waiver?

Thanks

I think it is sufficient to upload scanned transcripts for the purpose of processing the application..

Regarding the english language test waiver.. My fingers are starting to get numb from being crossed....

This is a reply I received from UTAustin MBA AdCom:

You do not have to submit a letter from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani to prove that all of your instruction was in English. Just check the "Medium of Instruction was English" and The University of Texas Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC) will review your TOEFL waiver request. You will receive a confirmation of your waiver decision within two weeks of submitting your application.

You will also be submitting your unofficial transcripts as part of the application process so please include both the front and back of your transcript when you upload it so that the GAIC will have all of the relevant information.

I think we're all clear for ToEFL waiver. My transcript from B.I.T.S. Pilani (India) has "Medium of Instruction: English" at the back. ;)

Well.. That is a bit of a relief to hear... Although my transcript has "Medium of Instruction: English" in small font on the bottom left corner.... I hope it gets noticed..

To add to my own anxiety, I mailed the UT Admissions office again...

This was what I wrote

I
Hello UT Office Of Admissions.,

I had submitted my application, paid the application fee and uploaded my transcripts to GIAC about 10 days ago. I had also requested for a waiver of a test of English proficiency since my undergraduate was conducted entirely in English. My transcripts also indicate that the medium of instruction was English and this can be found on the bottom left corner of the 2nd page of the pdf file I had uploaded.

However, my McCombs Application status shows that the application fee and transcripts uploaded to GIAC are pending. Also, my GIAC Application status shows that the TOEFL scores are still pending.

I contacted the McCombs admissions committee and was asked to contact the GIAC first. Can you please help me sort out both these issues?

And this was their reply...

UT Office Of Admissions
You will have to request a waiver from the McCombs School of Business. Although your school taught in English, Undergraduate degrees earned in India aren’t exempted from the English Proficiency Exam.

Your transcripts and application fee are fine. Your file shows that we have received the transcripts and your payment, but your file is incomplete because your TOEFL/IELTS score hasn’t been received.

I've forwarded this to the McCombs admissions committee... Lets see what happens....

Hi MacFauz,
Thanks for the update.
This is definitely NOT something great I'd say...Especially this one "Although your school taught in English, Undergraduate degrees earned in India aren’t exempted from the English Proficiency Exam. "

Let's see what the McCombs Adcom has to say...!

You've a PM!

P.S: By the way, what about other schools in your list - I mean, Ross,UNC,Tepper? Did you hear anything from these schools on TOEFL waiver?

I've submitted my app for Ross, Tepper, K-F and Olin without any issues.. The application interface for all those schools are different... And this is K-F's actual statement given on the website regarding the TOEFL waiver... " TOEFL, IELTS or PTE Academic is required for applicants for whom English is not the native language. Our school code for these tests is also 5816. Applicants do not need to submit a TOEFL, IELTS or PTE score if: They earned an undergraduate degree or graduate degree from a university in India. We will request test scores from some Indian candidates as needed." So no issues there... :)

Yeah that's what I was asking...so glad to know that Ross, Tepper, and UNC provide TOEFL waiver for Indians when Medium of Instruction of undergrad is English...That seriously lessens the pressure :)

Sorry man.. No word yet... McCombs's adcom told me that I would be notified once they review my request for waiver... FWIW this was their reply..

The MBA Admissions staff will let you know about your TOEFL waiver once they review your file. You should hear something within the next few days. We show your application fee has been paid, and your transcripts should show up on the status page soon.

Thanks,

McCombs Admissions Committee
