Hi,
So I was admitted to Mendoza with scholarship in R2 and have recently been accepted into the McCombs MBA program off the wait list as well. I am trying to gauge if the benefits of an MBA from McCombs are significant enough for me to forfeit my scholarship at Mendoza. Plus this admit has come at a very late stage , so a lot of hassles and money loss involved as well. Please advise. My post MBA goal is to get into Management Consulting (S&O).International candidate from India.
So from what I understand, while McCombs is ranked higher than Mendoza, it really depends on where you want to work. Anything outside the top 10-15 schools becomes slightly more advantageous regionally. So in the Midwest, Notre Dame's Mendoza is going to be more recognized by firms there.
Yes, you are right about these schools being regional. However, for me as an international student, its difficult to analyse whether I would prefer to work in Dallas/Houston or Chicago (Dallas/Houston being the nearest consulting hubs for McCombs and Chicago being the nearest consulting hub for Mendoza). Weather too is not a concern right now. Having collated some detailed employment stats from current students, I have realized that the presence of MBB on campus is nearly the same for both McCombs and Mendoza, and the second tier consulting firms (Deloitte,EY,PWC) hire actively from both as well. So i see no immediate gains in this regard, though there is a slight difference in the average starting salaries for both schools. In terms of network, Notre Dame is supposed to have a very close knit alumni group.
