Thanks Manu for initiating this thread.

Going by this article on indian express, it looks like they have only asked the IIM's to not term the 1-year program as a degree (as its not per UGC guidance), which i dont think they are doing even currently.

I think even the 2 year mba from IIM is only called a "Diploma" and not a "Degree". But, I would definitely like some experts opinion on this...

As others have rightly pointed out, this article only says that the HRD Ministry has asked the IIMs not to award MBA degrees for the 1-year programs (i.e. graduates of these programs will continue to receive diplomas, and not degrees, as earlier).

This will not really change anything. Recruiters do not care about whether the program results in a diploma or a degree, as you can see from the fact that thousands of IIM (which has so far awarded only diplomas for all its programs) and ISB (which awards only a certificate) students have done very well in their careers.
