Hi!
I applied to MIT Sloan last year, for fall 2018 admissions and I did not get in. I am planning on reapplying in R1 for the fall of 2019, and looking for some advice on my reapplication strategy.

About me: 26 yearold, female.
Undergrad GPA: 3.85 (math and psychology major)
Gmat: 740
Work in marketing at a large technology company (IBM). I have been here for 3.5 years, and received two promotions.
I also work as marketing director of a streetfood startup (part time).

Since I last applied, I did not receive any promotions at work, but I did expand my role and responsibility. I took a MOOC course through Coursera on Entrepreneurship, and joined the board of a non-profit organization. I also continued my role as marketing director of a streetfood startup.

I am looking for advice on who I should get recommendations from -- I need two! --- options:
1. My current supervisor at IBM (who provided my recomenndation last year, but could speak to new projects I am working on)
2. My department director - I haven't worked very closely with him, but he can speak to some of the impact of my projects, and is a VP at my company
3. My past supervisor at my current company (she was my supervisor 2 years ago, and would write an amazing recommendation, but it would be of things I was doing 2 years ago)
4. The founder of the streetfood startup (he wrote my recommendation last year, and honestly my role there has not changed greatly)
5. The director of the non-profit board I joined. Although I only joined a few months ago,, I have done a lot there.

Can you help me decide what I should stress out of everything above, in my video and cover letter? Should I focus on attributes of my personality that I did not mention before in my application last year, or more about what I have been up to in the last year, should I mentioned the online Entrepreneuship course?

Hi libiem2,

Thank you for your post, and sorry to hear that your application for intake 2019 was rejected. I am happy to discuss your profile. Your quantitative data is robust. I would like to read last year's application materials (the ones you have access to, of course) so I can discern what went wrong.

You have posted great questions. Unfortunately, it is difficult for me to answer which direction you should take your MBA application if I do not know the details of your profile. It makes sense that you talk about your professional developments since last application round, but you have a section in the application for re-applicants. It offers 1000 characters to discuss any changes. There, you can talk about your expanded responsibilities and MOOC, if they add value to your overall goal. Your application should be holistic, and you should address why you require an MBA and why one from MIT.

If you would like to continue the conversation, please reach out to schedule a free consultation (contact details in signature).

Good luck!
