I took the GMAT for the first time yesterday and got 720 (50Q, 38V). I was planning to stay in England, but when I was younger I did consider applying to read for an undergraduate degree at MIT. Would I be competitive at MBA or PhD level at MIT with that score please ? Would there be any advantage in retaking for a higher score ? I think I could get the verbal up, as I did not prepare for that part very hard, but probably not much higher as I have always been stronger on maths than English.

your score is GOOD....
your GMAT only matters so much...you have done GOOD...shed some light on your background. answer why you need an MBA, why some school should invest money/time in you....why do you deserve to get an MBA from MIT...and what have you done to prove your mantal...

I can't really comment on whether you are competitive at MIT without knowing more about you than just your GMAT. Certainly that is a competitive score for the MBA at MIT.
