Bunuel, Although I preferred E over D, but Why is D wrong?

because D says that only the weather report is hourly, and the original meaning of the sentence is that both the news and weather report is hourly

How do we know the original meaning?

Most commercial radio stations broadcast an hourly news and weather report every hour.

A. an hourly news and weather report every hour

B. hourly weather and news reports every hour

C. an hourly news and weather report once an hour

D. news reports and an hourly weather report

E. an hourly news and weather report

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Most commercial radio stations broadcast an hourly news and weather report every hour.

A. an hourly news and weather report every hour

This answer choice is stylistically flawed. Using both hourly and every hour is redundant since they mean the same thing.

B. hourly weather and news reports every hour

This answer choice is stylistically flawed and repeats the original mistake. Using both hourly and every hour is redundant since they mean the same thing.

C. an hourly news and weather report once an hour

This answer choice is stylistically flawed and repeats the original mistake. Using both hourly and every hour is redundant since they mean the same thing.

D. news reports and an hourly weather report

Although this answer choice corrects the redundancy of the original sentence, it changes its meaning. In the original sentence, both the news and weather reports are broadcast every hour. In this answer choice, only the weather report is hourly.

E. an hourly news and weather report

Using both hourly and every hour is redundant since they mean the same thing. This answer choice corrects the original redundancy by omitting the phrase every hour.
