Hi Mishra9090,

Academically, your undergraduate degree in Bachelors in Business Administration, a business degree, will work in your favour since most schools providing an M.Fin specialization prefer applicants with a relevant academic background. Additionally, a GPA of 3.2 is pretty competitive and showcases your intellectual prowess.

As far as the GAMT goes, a score of 620 is satisfactory concerning the schools you are targeting.

Moving on to your work experience, your internships, provided they are in finance, will definitely act in your favour since AdComs are looking out for candidates with relevant experience in finance. That said, as you lack big brands in your work experience, you can compensate for this by providing an apt reason as to why you chose these firms, how you have gone above and beyond the role, any initiatives you undertook, and any kind of impact created to showcase an equally competitive profile.

Since the top schools are always on the lookout for candidates who are constantly on the path of upskilling themselves, you can also pursue specific certifications like CFA or FRM, which are core financial certifications and would also show your passion for the field of finance.

As you have not mentioned any extracurricular activities, I’d like to let you know that extracurricular participation plays an important role in strengthening your application as B-schools are on the hunt for all-rounder profiles. Hence, it is essential to shed some light on the endeavours you took up in clubs, associations, sports, fest, or events you managed or volunteered in during your undergrad. Thus, you should dig deeper into this aspect and bring out varied skills in your profile to showcase a holistically developed profile.

Now, coming over to the schools you are targeting - UCD, TCD, EDINBURGH, UT DALLAS - all these fall under the competitive category. Having said that, your chances of acceptance in these schools would be around 60% to 70%. In order to further improve your chances, you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application (consisting of - Essays, LORs, and Resume) to back your profile. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers, and how you are a great and valuable addition to the school. A strong application increases your chances of acceptance by up to 30%!

In addition, I’d recommend you to target a few more schools in the safe category, such as SKEMA, Grenoble, Cass, UCL, Kings, NUI, and DCU.

All things considered, I would recommend you check out our flagship ALL-IN-ONE service, which has helped 3500+ applicants get into their dream schools. As you are still in the early process of your application, it would provide you with end-to-end consulting and unlimited edits on your application documents. Not only that, you’d be connected with a B-school alumnus who’d be helping you directly with your application process, right from shortlisting the right schools and crafting an impactful application to prepping for the interview and bagging scholarships!

Hope this helped!

Hi,
Nationality: Indian
Course: MSc Finance
GPA: 9.19/10
GMAT: 620 (Q49, V26) expect it to increase at least to 680 on a retake.
Work Experience: 6months equity trader, 1-month equity research internship
Undergrad: Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics ( Bachelors in Financial Markets )
ECs - Yt Football related channel with 30k subs (If it helps)

The problem is I complete my undergrad in July 2019. Got the job in Nov 2019 but lost it in April 2019 due to covid. I got into the Frankfurt School of finance and mgt(masters in finance) without a scholarship. I am thinking of taking 1 more gap, in that year I will improve my GMAT to at least 680, will have 6 months of experience in IB(internship) and will give my CFA in November. Do you think so that because it will almost 3 years since I have completed my undergrad, this 1 year will have a negative impact on my profile and chances of getting into good colleges in Europe and Canada(Mcgill MMF)?

Target college - RSM Msc Fin and Inv, SSE MSc Fin, Mcgill MMF.
Do you guys think so that it is worth waiting 1 more year for these colleges When I have already got into Frankfurt school?
I will be 23 by the time Frankfurt school program starts and will be 24 by the program starts next year. Do you think my age will be an issue because msc finance are usually pre experience programs.

At that point you should just do an MBA. All the things you mention will help you, but your GPA will remain a hurdle. As you get more and more work experience, the MSF becomes less idea. If you pass all levels of the CFA you won't really learn much in an MSF as well.

I used WES evaluation services, my converted GPA is 3.66.

Turns out my UG university uses a more stringent grading scale (Eg. Min GPA at my college is 2, and minimum passing masks in 50%+). Most student have a GPA in the range of 2.8-3.2.

Does a 3.66 GPA make me a competitive applicant for MIT MFIN?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to apply to MiF programs for the 2022 cycle. Specifically - LSE (MSc Fin), Oxford MFE, HEC MiF and MIT MiF. Would really appreciate any advice on the steps regarding timelines and the processes along with my chances at these programs. Happy to team up with other applicants as well.

My background:

1. Nationality: Indian

2. Education -
B.E. Mechanical Engineering - BITS Pilani (Best private uni in India, top 10 in the country overall)
CGPA: 8.35/10 (WES GPA: 3.69/4)
Minor (Finance) - GPA: 10.0/10.0 (7 finance courses including quant heavy subjects like FinE. Also took the applied stochastic processes course(got a B)). Ranked Top 5/200 students in almost all finance courses.
Teaching assistant for the security analysis course

3. GRE: 329 (170Q, 159V) - Will also give GMAT.

4. Fulltime workex: N/A (Currently in Final year (2021 grad))

5. Internships: 5 in total -
6 months in an investment banking role (middle office) (JP/GS/MS)
1.5 months at a London based LMM VC advisory (worked remotely due to COVID)
2 months in a corp fin/strategy role at a Singapore based telecommunications firm (worked remotely due to COVID)
2 months in a small market research firm
1.5 months (informally) in equity research at a large Indian mutual fund.

6. Leadership/club work -
Worked as one of the Placement Coordinators at BITS (worked in the middle of the COVID mess)
CIO at the campus investment club
VP at the campus MUN
Member of the consult and policy debate clubs.

7. No significant community work.

8. CFA - L1 attempt in July 2021 (slot got deferred 3 times)

9. Career goals -
Immediate post-MS - Front office analyst role at one of the bulge brackets (Ideally in London/NY)
Long term - shift into PE/VC roles + MBA at M7 with ~5 years of workex.

Addition information -
My grades in freshman year are low with C's in the math and CS courses. Worked hard to boost grades in sophomore and junior year. Really unsure of my chances due to these low grades in the quant courses (Really need advice regarding this) + My coding skills are horrendous.
No quant related academic projects/papers.
Tried for deferred MBA programs this cycle but started late and got buried under intern work.
Work experience has been decent with significant responsibility.

Hi random112358. My name is Jamie and I'm a consultant with Accepted and previously served as Admissions Director for Early Career Programmes at LBS. Thanks for sharing your profile information.

You tick the boxes that these programmes will be looking for - academic excellence (incl. solid GRE + assumed CFA L1 pass), relevant experience, extracurricular engagement. Your career plans appear considered, though you’ll need to demonstrate you have an understanding of what it takes to move into a front office role and that you have considered alternative routes to get to the LT PE/VC aim. BBs in London/NYC will be tough. You should try and secure a front office internship if you can before your graduate studies.

I'll focus on your academic credentials and the freshman year grades that you flagged. What will ad coms be seeing here - a few C's scattered through your first year or consistent C's throughout? It sounds like you made the effort to revise and improve, which is a positive story, and one ad coms like to see (the improvement speaks to your motivation and academic diligence). If more than just a few marks, you'll need to think of how to present these blips - was it due to adjusting to college life? Personal issues? Something else? The key to addressing low grades is to be factual and to the point. No making excuses. As well, did you retake any of these freshman year modules later and do better? If so, great. If not, you should look at the relevance of those courses (e.g. coding) to the specific programme and if it's an area covered in the curriculum, you might want to think about taking an online refresher course to show them you'll be able to handle that subject.

If you'd like to PM me with those specific freshman year results and/or your transcript, I'd be happy to take a closer look.

Age- 20 (Turning 21 this year)
Gender – Male

Undergraduate:
Bachelors of Business Administration (Specialization in Finance) from NMIMS University Mumbai
CGPA: 3.19 (73%)(WES conversion is around 3.61 since CGPA grading at my Uni is different & and passing percent is 40% per subject), Last Year CGPA: 3.8 (Finance Specialization Year)

GMAT:
630 (Q48, V28), Planning to Retake (although target Unis do not require it)
Giving CFA Level 1 Feb 2022.

Work Experience:
2 Internships – Business Development Intern (2 mos), Finance Intern(4 Mos)

Leadership:
Senior Member of a Cultural College Club for three years, leading to the team winning 4 inter-college music competitions.

I had a rocky start at the beginning of my undergraduate and scored around 2.7 or lower in my first three semester but I picked myself up and put in tremendous effort and scored between 3.7-3.9 in my final three semesters. Regardless of this, I still feel that my cumulative gpa isn’t enough to get me into my targeted unis.

Targeted Unis: Warwick (MSc in Business & Finance), UCL (MSc in Finance), Edinburg (MSc Finance), McGill (MMF), Simon Rochester (MSc in Finance, last option)

I don't have any relevant work experience besides an internship in Products Office for Azimut Capital Management (an Italian asset management company) from mid-June 2021 to September 2021 (3 months).
An HEC recruiter manager told me the admission committee is aware that it's difficult for Italian students to find an internship before graduation.

Do you think I have a chance? I'm worried about the lack of work experience as it seems everybody applying for an MSc in Finance has already worked for a top BB 😭😭😭

Hello everyone,

I have been working in Crowe LLP Pakistan (audit firm) for the past year as an audit associate after completing my ACCA and earning BSc in Applied Accounting degree from Oxford Brookes University (through ACCA). I got the first class UK degree (equivalent to US 4CGPA) thanks to my scores in ACCA but was unsure if such a degree program would be eligible for prestigious masters program such as MIT MFin. Although Oxford university categorically stated in an email reply that I would not be at any disadvantage due to the nature of degree, I have not been successful in getting a reply from MIT (the website does state that it accepts applications from 3 year degree programs). Please evaluate my profile and chances at securing admission at MIT Mfin, Oxford MFE, LSE. I intend to break into investment banking.

Profile:
Age: 23 | Pakistani
Undergrad: 4 CGPA (BSc Hons in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University in partnership with ACCA)
GMAT 720
CFA Level 1
MIT MicroMasters in Finance (ongoing)
1 year startup experience (although it was mostly a solo flight with no measurable success)
At time of application roughly 12 months full time work experience at a Pakistan's 5th top Audit firm
Plan to switch to IB or Asset management after graduation (most likely in Europe, but possibly in the US)

Programs:
MIT MFIN
OXFORD MSFE
LSE
Imperial

What do you guys think? Do I have a chance of getting into any of these programs?

Thank you everyone! I appreciate your guidance!

Hello AliceBissolino. My name is Jamie and I'm a consultant with Accepted and previously served as Admissions Director for Early Career Programmes at LBS. Thanks for sharing your profile information.

What the HEC recruiter told you is something that all of your target European schools will be familiar with. While they won't expect students coming from Italian universities to have the same level of internship experience as students coming from some other countries, having additional real-world experience would certainly strengthen your candidacy. It's great that you have the upcoming internship with the AM company and I'd encourage you to seek other opportunities (could include insight experiences, career exploration activities, etc.) before potentially beginning your graduate studies in autumn 2022. And these opportunities don't need to be in a BB. Widen your net and see what other houses will help you develop a relevant skill set and network.

Finance is a funny one - you need experience to get experience. Think about it from the perspective of the employer (ad coms will). When applying for post MSc Finance roles, it's very possible that you'll have only completed a small amount of your degree. So a certain amount of weight will still be given to your pre-master profile. From what you've written, that profile looks good - excellent grades from a quant degree at Cattolica, focussed extra-curriculars, good GMAT (competitive for most of the schools you've listed, though to note, the median for HEC is 710).

I hope this is helpful but please don't hesitate to PM me if you'd like to chat through anything. Best of luck!

I just thought about the options of applying for an MS in Finance last week, so I did not have any prior preparations or researches regarding the GMAT and schools to apply. I have several questions that I would like to ask:
Is it possible to increase my GMAT score to 700+ in 3-4 months? I'm thinking about buying the 2022 OG coupled with a Magoosh course to study for the GMAT, is it a good approach?
I have done my research for those master programs, and it seems like the most viable options for international students to fund for their studies are merit-based scholarship. Is it possible to get full tuition covered with merit-based scholarships? How can I make myself stand out to be considered?
Are there any other universities that you recommend me apply to, whose tuition is around 50-60k?

Background and nationality: Opinion journalist (economics and markets), Indian, and 32 years old
Undergrad Information: BA History, MSc Economic History (LSE, London), MA Journalism (Columbia University, New York)
GMAT/GRE: Yet to take (can someone suggest a minimum score I must attain?)
Work experience: Nearly 7 years as an opinion journalist (editorial page writer) writing on the economy and markets for leading English dailies in India; also did a summer internship stint with the opinion pages of WSJ, New York, as well as a reporting internship with Business Insider's markets page. Got some internship experience with a few London-based think-tanks too.
Leadership: None apart from college-level stuff
Post Master goals: Unclear at the moment
Anything else: is a MS in Finance a good fit for me? I don't have much in the way of leadership experience or career progression (my very first job was with the opinion pages; people usually don't start that high in journalism) to how. I began considering the MS in Finance as an alternative to an MBA since MBA schools seem to emphasize a lot on leadership experience and career progression (which I don't possess). Are MS Finance courses any different? Will my complete lack of formal experience in the financial space put an end to my chances? I don't have much in the way of quant content in my CV either (hoping I can make up for it with a good GMAT quant score). I'm passionate about finance and economics (have read like 600 books on these subjects in the last decade) and can claim to be well-versed in these subjects, but that won't count for much in admissions I guess.

Please be blunt with your feedback. If i shouldn't waste time targeting MBA and MSF courses, please let me know. I do not want to waste time targeting courses that just won't take me in. Also it would be great if you could suggest other more market-friendly degrees that I could apply to. Thank you!
