Hi all, I'm looking to apply to some MSF programs since I'm unsure if I'll get a job that I want after graduation. Currently I'm in my final year of study so I've been applying to jobs but I feel like I've messed up and want to make sure that I have something to fall back on.

Demograhpics: 21, M, American
Education: Graduating Spring 2026, B.S. Finance and B.S. Economics, 3.7 GPA (messed up in earlier years but have consistently held a 3.8), T3 University (top 200 in US)
Certifications: Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst (FMVA) by Corporate Finance Institute
ECs:
- Executive Member of a club 2nd semester of 1st year -> Vice President start of 3rd year
- Philanthropy Committee Member of a fraternity 1st semester of 2nd year till present
- Officer position of a fraternity for my entire 3rd year (our fraternity achieved the highest honor my fraternity can be given)
- Recruiting Officer of a business fraternity 2nd semester of 2nd year for 1 year
- Attended a Case Competition my 2nd and 3rd year but didn't place 1st
Internships:
- Operations intern at a FAANG company (received return offer)
GMAT: 675 95th percentile Q82 V85 DI84
LOR:
- 1 from a finance professor who I've been in contact with a lot and has acted as a mentor at some times.

My biggest worry is my lack of finance experience. The only thing I currently have, besides my major/classes, is the FMVA certificate. This worries me more for jobs than getting a MSF but I hope that if finance experience/internships is evaluated for MSF programs that my GMAT score makes up for it. I'll be applying for Notre Dame in the 1st round but I'm unsure yet if I will for WashU.

Goal: I want to apply to a school that'll give me good scholarship money but will also be a top school. Further, I want to be able to be in Chicago post graduation.

1. UChicago, Notre Dame, WashU are my picks, in that order. Are these schools that I can target in the US? And what other schools should I add?
2. HEC Paris, LBS, ESSEC, USG. Are these schools that I can target in the EU? And what other schools should I add? (note: I'm getting EU citizenship in ~1 year)
3. I'm considering an MBA in ~4-5 years after graduation to transition into IB since I don't want to go into IB at the current moment. Will I be able to get a role in Corporate Banking or Capital Markets after an MSF? If not, then what other finance roles will I be looking for?

Hey everyone,

I’m applying to Msc in Finance programs in continental Europe and could really use some advice.

Target programs ranking:
  1. HSG MBF
  2. HEC MIF
  3. Bocconi MIF
  4. ESSEC MIF
  5. ESCP MIF

Profile:
  • Nationality: Polish
  • GMAT Focus: Exam date on 13.10. Mock exam: 655.
  • Experience: Operations internship at HSBC, and other non-finance work experience e.g. Law
  • Extracurricular Activities: Strong - voluntary work, student council, international exchange
  • Languages: Polish (native), English (C1), German (C1), Spanish (B2)
  • Average Grade: 4,13/5 (Polish) -> 3,3 GPA
  • Currently in the last year of my Bachelor's

Plans after Master's:
IB in London / Paris / DACHL

What are my chances for my targets?
Should I apply in the first rounds or maybe wait to get my profile better?
Maybe I should wait a year to get more relevant internships and try next year?
Should I even bother looking at HEC considering my profile?
Are less prestigious Master's programs e.g. MACFin at HSG or Accounting, Financial Management and Control at Bocconi worth considering?

Hi all,

I’d like to get your thoughts on my profile for Masters In Finance applications. I’m targeting top European programs and a few international ones. My goal is to join a Master in Finance at HEC, LBS, ESCP, or similar top-tier schools.

Here’s my background:
  • Background and nationality: French, currently working in Paris
  • Previous Education : Master in Management (PGE) from SKEMA Business School, with a strong focus on financial markets, GPA 3/4
  • GMAT Focus: Targeting 650-700 (would that be enough ?)
  • Work experience : 3 internships in market finance (2 large french banks & a broker):
    • Sales at Natixis CIB (Treasury trading floor)
    • Broker Assistant in FIC Derivatives
    • Trading floor Risk Analyst at Société Générale CIB.
  • Others: good knowledge of quantitative tools (Python & SQL), fluent in english.
  • Post Master goals: Sales or trading role

Thanks in advance for your feedback and school recommendations !

Hi everyone,
I’m Italian and I'm considering applying to the Master in Banking and Finance (MBF) at the University of St. Gallen and would really appreciate some feedback on how competitive my profile might be.

Here are my main details:

  • Bachelor’s degree: Economics and Management from LUISS University (Rome, Italy)
  • GPA: 30.73/31 (Italian scale), 6.0/6.0 (Swiss scale)
  • Merit-based scholarship covering all tuition fees
  • GMAT focus: 635
  • Work/Internship experience: project and trade-finance boutique in Rome for 2 months
  • Extracurriculars: exchange semester at ESSEC Business School
  • Languages: Italian (native speaker), English (C2, IELTS academic 8.5/9), French (B1)
Do you think this profile would be competitive for the MBF, given the average GMAT and selection criteria?
Any tips on how to strengthen my application (especially for non-Swiss applicants) would be very appreciated.

Hi LorenzoTorella
Thanks for sharing your profile.

To begin, your GPA is great and the fact that you have a merit-based scholarship is a cherry on the cake. It’s also good you have done an internship in trade-finance but, if possible, try to secure a role aligned with capital markets, risk, asset management, or corporate finance. This would help a lot in your application essays also. The only contention is your GMAT score which is a bit lower than what Gallen typically sees. A 665+ score would be a great starting point as Gallen has allocated 30% weightage to test scores in the application process. So, do consider retaking the GMAT. Gallen’s upcoming deadline is 30[sup]th[/sup] November so that will not give you much time for a retake. You may have to consider applying in the third round which is on 31[sup]st[/sup] Jan. If you’ve just given the GMAT, then it’s best you give the retake within the next 30 days as you will remember most of what you’ve learned.

Also think about your post Masters goals because it’s very important how you articulate them. Map out short term and long term goals, identify the particular finance-specific domain you want to work in and how you expect your career to grow.

We’d love to offer a free 1-on-1 profile evaluation to discuss how you can build bring out your profile story, what kind of career development you can expect post your MS, and any other queries you may have.

Hello everyone,

I'm currently a senior studying finance and international business with a minor in economics (American, but have lived in Russia for 13 years) at a semi-target, competitive school in the U.S., with an exchange semester at WHU (Germany) and a 3.8 GPA, honors. I have experience with one remote private equity internship, one internship writing finance articles, and this summer I've interned with a middle-market Wall Street firm in New York doing equity research. On a side note, I also did an internship + an educational summer program in politics in Washington, D.C. I'm applying to the Oxford MFE, Paris HEC, Yale MAM, and MIT MFin programs.

I was a CIO of a blockchain club in my second year, and I was also part of a restructuring investment banking club, where I placed in the top 4 out of 24 teams in a case competition.

I'm currently studying for the GRE, aiming for 320+ hopefully. I would appreciate any insights.

Hi wallstreetru,
You've got a stellar profile in all aspects. Your GPA is great, major is aligned, and the internships, especially the middle-market equity research with Wall Street, gives your profile a solid boost. The club involvement also ads immense weight to your profile. Since you're preparing for the GRE, I would suggest that you aim for a 325+ score because all the school you're targeting are top-notch and they usually see such score range. 320 only gets you a foot in the door. Make sure that yiur quant score is very competitive.

Also, the Yale MAM (Master of Advanced Management) is for MBA graduates. Instead, you can consider adding LSE's MSc Finance (general) or MSc Finance and Economics (concentrated), Imperial's MSc Finance to your list.

We'd be happy to connect with you 1-on-1 to discuss any queries you may have about your profile or the schools you should target.

Hi everyone,
I’m a French student finishing the EDHEC International BBA (Corporate & Investment Banking track), and I’d really appreciate a profile evaluation for top EU Master’s programs (MSc Finance / MiM).

Academically, I have an overall average of around 14.2/20, which corresponds roughly to a UK 2:1 or about 3.4 on the GPA scale. I also completed an exchange semester in South Korea. I’m targeting a GMAT score between 650 and 700, and for English I aim for an IELTS of at least 7.

In terms of experience, I’ve worked in M&A (6 months), private equity coverage (6 months), and wealth management, and I also launched a small consulting activity on the side . Overall, most of my background is finance-oriented, with a mix of analytical, project-based, and entrepreneurial exposure. I also have some extracurricular leadership experience through student and volunteer roles.

I’m mainly interested in applying to European programs, especially HEC, ESSEC, ESCP, Imperial, LBS, LSE, Bocconi, and St. Gallen. My goal is to strengthen my academic profile with a well-recognized second degree and to keep doors open for careers in private equity.

I would really appreciate feedback on a few points:
– With my academic profile, do I have a realistic chance at the top MSc Finance programs (HEC/ESSEC/Imperial/LBS/Bocconi)?
– Would MiM programs be more attainable, or is the MSc Finance track still possible with a 650–700 GMAT?
– For more quantitative programs, should I prepare additional math coursework or certifications?
– Is an IELTS 7 (Spking 6/ reading 7 / writing 6 / Listening 8,5) sufficient for these schools?
– Based on my background and goals, would you recommend pursuing a MiM or an MSc Finance?

Thanks a lot for your time, any honest feedback would be very helpful.

Hi mollitiaipsa,

The GMAT 725 helps compensate for the GPA to a large extent; you definitely have a very strong profile on paper and if you are able to translate this into a set of compelling essays, you stand a good chance at your target schools.

For a detailed evaluation, we welcome you to schedule a free strategy session with us.

Hi, everyone

Looking for a reality check here:

Indian male, 22,
Education: Bachelors of Arts in Economics (Honours), 6.3/10 CGPA - first division from the University of Delhi (in case high school scores matter, 12th grade: 95%)
Work/internship experience: Data Analyst at S&P Global for 8 months so far, aiming to complete 2 years in June 2027 before the start of the degrees I'm targeting. 3 months at a business analyst internship at a Fortune 500 international property management MNC. 23 months heading the largest student news media organization in the country during my undergraduate.
Other: Ranked 3rd from 800 teams across the country in a management consultancy case study competition.

Planning on taking the GMAT Focus edition

Goal is to get a pathway into high finance but I feel my current credentials and a lack of work ex are dragging me down so a b school may help.

I'm aiming for the following:
MQM with finance track at Fuqua (Duke University)
Masters in Corporate Finance (Bocconi)
MSc Finance (LSE)
Masters in Financial Analysis + MiM (LBS)
MS in Quantitative Finance (NYU Stern)

What kind of score do i need to aim for in the GMAT FE to achieve my targets? I understand my undergrad GPA would drag my application down, can a good GMAT + work ex + extracurriculars cover for that? Are there any other programs I should be looking at?

Hi percyboi66,

A high GMAT score will definitely help (so, aim for a 695+ for schools such as Duke, Stern, LBS) but a set of compelling essays will be equally helpful.

Over the next few months, work on building your profile - at work, seek avenues that showcase your potential for leadership and problem solving to the extent possible; beyond work, look at involving yourself in activities that have an impact (and, are not about volunteering alone).

Should you feel the need for a detailed profile evaluation, please get in touch with us for a free strategy session.

percyboi66,
If you’re targeting the 2027 intake, gaining another two years of work experience is a sensible plan. That additional runway can significantly strengthen your candidacy — especially if you use it intentionally.
Over the next couple of years, focus on taking on high-ownership, impact-driven projects. Even in entry-level roles, look for opportunities to:
  • Lead a small initiative or workstream
  • Drive process improvements
  • Influence stakeholders across teams
  • Deliver measurable outcomes
Admissions committees care less about title and more about demonstrated initiative and growth.
On the testing front, I would recommend targeting a GMAT Focus 685+ for the programs you’ve mentioned. Given your lower GPA, a strong test score becomes even more important as an academic compensator. Specifically, aim for 95th percentile or higher in Quant to strengthen your academic signal.
If you use the next two years strategically — both professionally and academically — you’ll be in a much stronger position by the time you apply.

Feel free to reach out should you want a one to one discussion

All the Best!

What kind of score do i need to aim for in the GMAT FE to achieve my targets? I understand my undergrad GPA would drag my application down, can a good GMAT + work ex + extracurriculars cover for that? Are there any other programs I should be looking at?
