  • University of St. Gallen – M.A. Banking & Finance

Education
  • B.Sc. in International Management (Finance major) from a non-target university, GPA: 3.7/4.0 (Top 5%, merit-based scholarship)
  • Exchange semester at a semi-target university
  • High school exchange year in the US

GMAT
  • GMAT FE: 605 (Q79 / V82 / DI 79)

Work Experience
  • 3-month internship at a Tier 1 Investment Bank
  • 3-month internship at MBB
  • 3-month internship in TAS at Big 4
  • 3-month internship in Audit at Big 4

Leadership & Extracurriculars
  • 2 years as President of the Finance Association at my university
  • 2 years as a tutor in Finance & Microeconomics
  • Extensive voluntary community work during high school

I consider my academic, professional, and extracurricular profile to be very strong. I will also receive strong letters of recommendation from finance/quantitative professors. However, I’m unsure whether this outweighs my relatively average GMAT score.

I’m planning to apply in Round 3/Round 4 at the end of March/beginning of April.

Any advice or insights would be highly appreciated!

A Q79 in GMAT FE might be a slight concern if you're targeting Finance-focused programs, as quant rigor is closely scrutinized. You may want to consider a retake to strengthen that aspect of your profile.
That said, internships at investment banks and MBB are definitely strong positives. Ultimately, much will depend on the specific projects you worked on and how clearly you can connect those experiences to your long-term career goals.

Agreed — while it’s not the only factor, a 645+ score would definitely put you in a more comfortable position. Also, since you’re targeting R4, competition for the remaining seats can be tighter.
You may also want to consider applying to schools like ESCP, ESADE, and ESSEC to diversify your options.

Exact chances can never be determined. But, this is not about surpassing a cut off score; in fact, most of these schools do not even have one. Ideally, for your best chances, you should aim for a score as close to the median as possible; with a 605, in a later round, things will not be straightforward.

Hello everyone,
I’m currently an undergraduate student in Mathematical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, and I’m planning to apply to top Master in Finance / Quantitative Finance programs in Europe. I would really appreciate some feedback on my chances and how to best position my profile.
Profile:
  • Undergrad: BSc in Mathematical Engineering, Politecnico di Milano
  • GPA: ~25.2/30 (Roughly 3.4/4.0 GPA) (Expecting improvement over the next semesters)
  • Expected Graduation: September 2027
  • IELTS: 7.5/9.0 English, Italian(native) and good in Spanish
  • GRE: 336/340 (170 Quant and 166 Verbal) Should I take the GMAT instead????
  • Coding: Python(national competition level), C/C++, MATLAB, Flutter, Swift, SQL, JavaScript, HTML
  • Relevant Experience:
    • Internship at Bank of Italy (credit analysis & rating methodologies, got a reference letter from the director)
    • Incoming Summer Internship at Accenture D&T Team (could get a reference letter)
    • Personal experience managing a diversified investment portfolio over the past 2 years
    • A+ LSE Summer School Principles of Accounting (got a reference letter from the professor there)
    • CEO of a real estate company for the past two years, generated $3M+ to date. Currently evaluating a leveraged buy-out strategy for my next acquisition using the non-liquid resources. (reference from a partner)
    • Co-Founder and CTO of an independent start-up, developed the full mobile app all by myself, currently in a first-round investment, projected to go $1M+, but who knows
    • (IDK if this is relevant, but I've been competing in high school in math, CS, physics, chemistry, and placed 10% nationally for 2 years straight, Google Code Jam qualifier, and a Turing machine competition in Italy, top 15 nationally.)
Career Goals:
My goal is to break into Investment Banking, Asset Management, or Quantitative Finance roles, ideally in Europe (London/Milan/Zurich), but I’m also open to opportunities in the US.

This is my current profile: LBS MFA, HEC MIF, Oxford MFE (2028 intake)
Background
Spanish, male, 25. Targeting top European MiF for 2028 intake. Long-term goal: PE / M&A in Europe.
Undergrad
BSc Computer Engineering, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), 2020-2026.

GPA: 6.0/10 (roughly 2.4/4.0). Took 6 years for a 4-year degree, several courses required multiple attempts.
Bachelor's thesis defense: 9,2/10.
Honest red flag, but performance turned around significantly in master's (see below).

Postgraduate (in progress)
MSc Artificial Intelligence + Business Implementation, UNIR, 2024-2026.

Core questions
Given the undergrad red flag, is a top MiF (LBS / HEC / Oxford) realistically achievable for 2028 intake with the plan above?

Top 2-3 red flags in my profile today?
Realistic admission probability per school with my projected 2027 profile?
Which improvements over the next 18 months move the needle most?
Is the cyber-to-finance pivot narrative credible, or does it raise commitment concerns?
Honest recommendation: 2028 intake, or wait until 2029-2030 with stronger work experience and a more mature profile? Which path maximizes long-term outcomes?

Hi, everyone

Looking for advice here:

Indian male, 22,
Education: Bachelors of Arts in Economics (Honours), 6.3/10 CGPA - first division from the University of Delhi (in case high school scores matter, 12th grade: 95%)
Work/internship experience: Data Analyst at S&P Global for 11 months so far, aiming to complete 2 years in June 2027 before the start of the degrees I'm targeting. I've got experience in covering financial transactions and have some leadership experience. Have also been leading a couple of automation projects based on AI.

3 months at a business analyst internship at a Fortune 500 international property management MNC.

23 months heading the largest student news media organization in the country during my undergraduate.

Other: Ranked 3rd from 800 teams across the country in a management consultancy case study competition.

Planning on taking the GMAT Focus edition. Currently getting 725-755 on the official practice tests 1-5.

Goal is to get a pathway into high finance but I feel my current credentials and a lack of work ex are dragging me down so a b school may help. I'm planning on applying this fall.

I'm aiming for the following:
MQM with finance track at Fuqua (Duke University)
MSc Finance (LSE)
Masters in Financial Analysis + MiM (LBS)
MS in Quantitative Finance (NYU Stern)
MSc in International Finance (HEC Paris)

What chances would i have provided I can achieve the GMAT scores I'm getting in my mocks for admits and scholarships? I'm primarily looking at Mfin courses, what other schools can i look at if financial aid is also a factor? I also will be able to secure references from my manager and associate director, does that affect anything?

Hi everyone, updating my old post here with my GMAT score from today.

I got a 695 which I'm slightly disappointed by. I was consistently hitting 735-765 on the official mocks and quant was something I feel I got unlucky with this time around.

Along with that, I was hoping for my GMAT to compensate for my low GPA (6.3/10) and I don't know if this is enough.

I'm working as a data analyst at S&P Global so I've got the work brand down. I also will have good references here and some side projects of my own(think AI-based research automation tools) at the company. Just completed one year here and will have completed two by the time sessions start in 2027. Also, I led India's largest independent student news organization during my undergraduate years if that helps.

My target schools are finance masters at:

Duke (Fuqua MQM)
HEC Paris
NYU Stern
LSE
Bocconi

I cannot figure out if I'm in a good spot to start prepping for my application essays. I could use some help in figuring this part out. Would I have any shot at merit based scholarships at the unis I mentioned?

HELLO I AM FROM TURKEY . I AM STUDENT YEDITEPE UNIVERSITY . MY MAJOR INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING MY GPA İS 2.65 BUT I HAVE MINOR AT ECONOMICS MY GPA IS 3.04 SO I WANT TO JOIN MASTER BUT I CANT WITHOUT FULL SCHOLARSHIPS . How many points do I need to score on GMATTEN to be in the running? For your intended focus, please understand esp wrt St. Gallen, Master’s degrees like the Master in Banking and Finance (MBF) or the Strategy and International Management (SIM) are intended for FRESH grads or those with minimal experience. Your 4+ years of experience therefore disqualifies you.

You may however, be more suited for MBA programs (Avg WE around 6 years though). While a competitive GMAT (classic) score ranges around 680, please understand with your background in Non-Finance Software profile, and lower than CFA 2 would both post bigger challenges, not merely for your admissions, but also for your post-grad employment. Exercise prudence in your choice of schools and your application strategy therefore.

As for other schools in your list, the employment reports of those schools in domains of finance for your profile, are not flattering, and even worse for Asset & Wealth Management.

Hello, I just finished my second year of Bachelor and I am going to apply for a few Msc. in Finance, 2027 intake.

Target programs:
HEC
ESCP
Bocconi
EDHEC
emLyon
IESEG
Rotterdam School of Management

Here is my profile:

Background and nationality:
Vietnamese, 20. I came to Belgium 2 years ago to pursue my Bachelor degree. I speak Vietnamese (native), English(fluent), French(intermediate level - I plan to get DELF B2 soon).

Undergrad:
BBA in KU Leuven, Belgium. GPA: 71% (cum laude) I know this GPA seems very bad but it is quite usual for my university to give low grades. Last year I had a GPA of 78% and was top 3% for reference
Exchange semester in Korea University, South Korea.
GMAT: not yet taken. Right now I am in the range of 615-655 and plan to get 700+ in the next 3 months.
2 recommendation letters, one academic and one professional.

Work experience:
5 months internship in Credit Analysis in a big corp.
2 weeks shadow internship in a local fund.

Post-master goal:
To work in Asset Mangagement, more specifically Portfolio Management.

My questions:
1. Is my profile enough to get into these school? How can I improve my profile given that I have 1 year left in my Bachelor?
2. My parents can only afford about 20k euros per year for my university fees (living expense excl.) Do you think it is possible for me to get a need-based scholarship or financial aid?

Your excellent GMAT, and good ECs well spread out will help you differentiate yourself, not merely for the AdCom now, but for IB employers post your masters.
A few things you should be very careful with:

I would strongly suggest to get your application in the best shape, and get multiple admits so as to negotiate high scholarships.

Hey guys! I am reaching out here as I am planning to make a career pivot into Finance aiming for top MSF programs like UT Austin, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, and other notable universities in the US

Here's my profile:

- Nationality: Indian (Grew up as an expat kid almost all my life living across various different countries)

- Undergrad: Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture, Minor in Business Management & Entrepreneurship GPA:3.93

- GMAT: Aiming for 685+ (taking in early September)

- Work Experience: Club President for a year, several internships in architecture, and post-grad I worked for an architecture firm in the US for a year. (Planning to intern at a family business as a finance intern after my GMAT, wanted to know thoughts on this)

- Community: Worked for several projects in my undergrad working for company collaborations that last for 3 months on end. Ran and managed a student-led club for the NOMA institution in the US

- Post Master Goals: Secure a full-time position in the corporate finance sector, preferably aviation, since that has become a recent passion of mine

- I left my job back in June 2025, and I've used my time to freelance and try different jobs to see where my interests lie. I'm anxious about getting placement in my target universities since I come from a non-finance/business background + I'm an international student. I want constructive and honest reviews about my profile, my dream target is UT Austin and I am aiming to submit all application materials for their round 1.

Hey @corppcb
Your strengths lie in the great diversity you can provide to the class, and a good GPA as a demonstrable evidence of your academic capability. The projected industry may actually hurt you since most aviation industries do not hire immigrants, but this will really depend from Univ to Univ. Your community work may be useful only if they can help you provide examples to SHOW your orientation for teamwork, initiatives and in line with your passion (professionally or otherwise)
Your gap from your job however, will be the real challenge for you to tackle, and if not handled well, it may adversely impact your application
