Hi ASIF23,

Many GMATers lead busy lives - and it certainly sounds as though yours is quite busy too! - so you are not alone. The GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level - but you need the necessary training time and you have to focus on learning and practicing the proper Tactics.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) What were your Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for your 1st attempt?
2) How many hours did you typically study each week?
3) What study materials have you used so far?
4) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
5) What Schools are you planning to apply to and what specific application deadlines are you facing?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Dear Rich,

1) I obtained Q38, V20.
2) 8 hours per week for 7 weeks (massively interrupted though) = 56 hours of study
3) No specific materials. Only some youtube videos and GMAT Club resources and only a few other free mock tests from sites like E-GMAT, Veritas, Kaplan, Manhattan and Princeton Review.
4) My Scores ranged from Q35-Q49 and V12-V26 in my mock tests.

I am trying to score 600 to get into Business Schools of Saint Mary's University, University of Regina, Memorial University of Newfoundland, all of which are in Canada. I want to study MBA.

Hi ASIF23,

Statistically-speaking, raising a 490 to the point that you can consistently score 600+ will likely require at least another 2 months of consistent, guided study - and you will have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. In addition, you will likely need to commit to at least 10-15 hours of consistent, guided study each week to earn that higher Score. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level. From what you describe about your timeframe, you might need to push back your planned Test Date and applications.

To be as efficient as possible with this next phase of your studies, we'll need to be as specific as we can be with information:

1) What 'brands' of practice Tests/mocks have you used so far?

2) Score 'ranges' do not mean much at this point; we need exact results from each of your Exams. On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

3) What specific application deadlines are you facing in January and what are the NEXT set of application deadlines (after January) for each of those Schools?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
