Hi everyone,
Well, since my first topic isn’t really about my plan or strategy anymore, I thought it would be wise to open up a topic to write down my GMAT experience.
To start of; I finished my Bachelor degree in BA last August, and had been thinking of doing a Master programme since September ’13. One of the requirements for this Master programme (pre-master) is a GMAT score of 600 (at least), and several other requirements which aren’t really that interesting.
So, after some postponing I decided to buy the OG ’15 around Christmas, and with some delay it arrived on January the 5th. Started studying like a madman but had some difficulties with Math. After some searching on the worldwideweb someone advised me to buy the
MGMAT guide, because this guide would cover the basics really well. That’s what I did. Planned my first GMAT on the 9th of March. Did the GMATprep1 and GMATprep 2. Scored a 600 on the first and a 500 on the second, which disappointed me greatly. I did the GMATprep2 like 6 days before the real deal, so I didn’t really have a lot of time to improve. The 9th of March came, and I was pretty nervous. Scored a 570 on the test, which to my surprise, didn’t really disappoint me since I had taken into account that there was a good chance I had to take it twice.
Well, after I got home I started searching some more, and after a couple of days I made my first post on the GMATclub forum. Talked about my strategy/game plan for the coming weeks, and felt pretty good after that.
I did the GMATpill CAT on the 17th of March and scored an awful 460, this disappointed me greatly and for a moment I thought of giving up. But hell no, I wasn’t going to let this test get the best of me, so I focused on the parts which I screwed up and adjusted my game plan. Did some hard studying that week and took The Economist CAT the 22nd of March. Scored a 560, which made me pretty happy, because it was a lot better than the 460 of some days back. Again, I reviewed the CAT and adjusted my game plan. Another week of studying, really starting to feel like I could do this. Then, March 29th I took the free Veritas CAT and scored a 620, that relieved a lot. I did review the Quant part which gave me a decent indication on what to focus on.
So, today, with a good week left to study I’m going to put in serious work for a day or 6 and after that I’m going to slow down a bit. I’m planning to review Veritas CAT Verbal today, spend another 2 days on SC (needs attention), read 4 or 5 articles every day (for RC) and then do Math for another 2 days. Would you guys advise me to take another CAT? Maybe even GMATprep 1 so I can see what really needs my attention the last days? And maybe to boost my confidence for the real deal?
I’m eager to hear from you!
