I just gave my GMAT today and left the test center disappointed with a score of 650 (Q48 V30).
While I'm gutted with the score and hope to give another attempt in a month's time, i wanted to know what my chances are with the following Business schools. I've found it really hard to get any candid advice from my searches on linkedin and must confess that i'm a bit of a novice on this front.

The business schools i'm targeting are :-
1. Rotman
2. Ivey Business School
3. Schulich
4. UBC Sauders

My Profile is as follows :-
1. Nationality/Gender: Indian/Male
2. Age: 25
3. Work Exp: 43 months in Deloitte USI.
4. GPA: 3.58 from VIT Vellore(CGPA 8.95), India
5. GMAT Score: 650 (Please advise on what would be a competitive score for my next attempt).
6. Notable work based achievements: Promoted to Consultant role. Received four awards thus far for my good job in projects, working with Clients in Fortune 500.
7. Notable leadership roles: Currently leading a team of 15 in delivering a project based on Smart Factory.
Former Board member in the NGO where i was working.
8. 7. Community Service: Yes, 2 years during UG.

Any feedback would be helpful. Please let me know if you require additional details.

Thanks,
K

Hello MKKrishnan,

Thanks for writing in.

While you have a fine overall profile, you must definitely work on your GMAT score. Canada has, of late, become very competitive (owing to the surge in applications) and a higher GMAT score will really help in improving your chances. Needless to say, the GMAT is only one part of the puzzle and a coherent set of career goals as well as a bunch of well-written essays will be equally important.

All the best!

Hi MKKrishnan,

Thanks for your post!

First of all, I would like you to understand that the average GMAT Score for B-schools in Canada is not that high compared to the US and European B-Schools. Moreover, you have a decent CGPA and worked with a famous fortune 500 company, that’s something bound to give you an advantage over others.

Coming to your profile, you do have a strong profile; you should highlight examples of leadership, your roles& responsibilities, and professional accolades (like your promotion).
Moreover, I can see you have mentioned some Community service work; however, it would all be vague if you cannot highlight challenges faced, leadership role played as a board member, and the impact created during your service.

All in all, I would say you do have an overall robust profile; if you are set on reapplying, target a score of 700+. A score that high would definitely cement your spot at top B-schools in Canada! Here is the list of TOP 9 MBA SCHOOLS IN CANADA. you can take a look, you will get some insights. If you'd like to get a detailed analysis of your profile regarding MBA programs at Rotman, Ivey Business School, Schulich, UBC Sauders, feel free to book a free session with us at your convenience.

Cheers!

You can find some info on average GMAT score for Canadian programs here: https://www.aringo.com/top-mba-program-rankings/
As you can see, your 650 is right around their average so in that aspect you have a solid chance.
