Hello experts

I want to start my GMAT Preparation. Please guide how to prepare in the best way.

Thanks in advance
Hello, Nehu743. I see that you have received two helpful responses already. Even so, I wanted to point out that the best way to prepare is up for debate. It is kind of like asking what is the best way to practice religion. You will likely get plenty of answers, and people may offer advice through their own experience or with the best of intentions, but ultimately, there is no one answer that will prove satisfactory to everybody. You may want to check out the GMAT Study Plan outlined by GMAT Club founder bb for some ideas. I would also urge you to take a look at my post on common GMAT™ preparation mistakes, in which I offer advice that may prove useful to someone in your position. (Marty has left a similar post to what he wrote above in the same thread.) In my post, you will find no shameless self-promotion, I can assure you. (I am nothing more than a volunteer on this site and do not solicit people for work.)

Good luck with your studies, however you choose to go about them.

- Andrew

Hi Nehu743,

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free at www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have that Score, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Nehu743,
At the very beginning, You can start mastering concepts available in the manhattan prep strategy guides. Attempting a mock test to see your current skills is a good idea too.

Hi Nehu743

The most important thing to do is to understand the objective of the exam. GMAT is a test of your inferential skills and your application skills. As such, that is where your focus must be. What you need is a structured study plan that gives you clear guidance on what to study and how to study it. I recommend doing this in 4 phases -

1. Planning - This is where you set your target score, your study plan, your timeline, the colleges you are targeting, the day you plan to take the actual exam. Keep in mind that it generally takes around 3 months to prepare well.

2. Learning - Start learning the concepts, then move to application of concepts. This is a key step, often missing in most students' preparation and leads to them being stuck in the low 600's score range. So you must make sure to avoid this and learn the correct methodologies of solving each question type. Finally, once you're done with that, move on to practicing questions. Solve them and go through the solutions step-by-step to maximize your learning.

3. Review - Assess your performance through sectional tests to find out your weak areas and improve on them. I'd also recommend maintaining an error log to see the mistakes you're making.

4. Mocks - Once you've done all this, you can take full mocks and see your performance.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you need to discuss this in more detail and need help with a strategy to get beyond the 700 mark. I'd be happy to help.

Dear Nehu743,
there are two approaches: offline and online. If you can assimilate much information and apply learned concepts efficiently, then the offline option is for you. In case you need well-structured study plan and complex approach then the online option is better choice.

I prefer second one because studying only the Manhattan guides did not bring me the visible result; the score is not improved. But, it does not necessarily mean that self-studying method will not work for you.

Regarding the online platform, I am in accord with Sainath123. TTP platform helped me to ameliorate my quant score from Q35 to Q44. You can try different approaches to opt the one that is right for you.
