I started preparing for GMAT 2 months ago. I am struggling with SC and need some help. Here are some of the things I have done:
- I started with reading the basics of SC (modifiers, parallelism etc.) from Manhattan Prep. Read the 300-page book from cover to cover - Solved approximately 100 questions from OG 2020
Challenges - Approximate accuracy is 50% (About 75% for easy questions and 35% for hard questions) - I have tried to understand the logic/flow of thought as explained in OG solutions but I find it difficult to apply the logic. Also, most of the time I find their explanation of a question getting contradicted by the explanation of another question
Before starting the GMAT prep, I appeared for eGMAT SigmaX mock. Score 650 (Q49, V30). I really want to push my verbal score to 40+. Please help. Thanks!

Though OG questions are the best, their solutions to the practice questions are not that good, so I simply follow some gmatclub experts, such as GMATNinja, AndrewN, mikemcgarry, AjiteshArun and go through their solution to an OG problem. GMATNinja's free live video lessons may contribute to your verbal score improvement.

you can try a trial course from TTP. It seems that they have a great course material to build the skill for Sc.
1. I referred only to Manhattan SC Book. Studied each chapter one by one and then solved the questions difficulty wise. 2. Project SC Butler:- This thread will teach you a lot. Two questions are posted everyday. 3. When you solve SC, understand the meaning of the question. Once you do that you will start seeing the split.
Tag Experts with your understanding against the questions you want to seek advice on.This will help them to understand your perspective and help you to map where you went wrong.
Hi aggarwal1994, since you mention SC as your specific area of concern, thought I would mention that our sentence correction book Sentence Correction Nirvana is perhaps the only book that offers a score improvement guarantee, and is especially designed for non-native speakers.
After reading the book twice (yes! it's an academic book, and so must be read twice in all seriousness, to reinforce the concepts), you will start looking forward to solving SC questions!
The book is available on Flipkart and Amazon.in. You might want to refer to these sites, to also read testimonials of how readers have benefited.
You can als go thru this post on how Soubhik, who scored V51 (overall score 780), vouches for our book.
If you want to sample a chapter before deciding to go ahead with our book, please PM me your mail-id (along with the chapter that you would like to sample) and I will be happy to send that chapter to you by mail. In addition, the entire Grammar section of the book is also available for free preview at pothi.
Probably fair to say there are some fundamental gaps that may need plugging at a V30 level. Working on your solving approach can also help boost your score.
