It is suggested that all practice and reading be done through pdfs because GMAT is an online exam and stamina can be built using ebooks or pdfs

Testing and a learning experience are not always the same. You’re welcome to use any format you want but you want to use the format that is the best for absorbent material and easy to use.

It really doesn’t matter what format it is at the end of the day. But don’t inconvenience yourself thinking it will help on the test and hamper you’re learning.

Instead, I recommend that you make notes regardless of which format of books you use. Make your own notes that are either typed or handwritten. That’ll help you absorb material a lot better though it will make your speed slower

Also recommend timing yourself on every question. Some people recommend starting out not timing yourself and then gradually starting to time. I timed myself from the very beginning so I knew how much time I had or did not have. It’s up to you. Whatever you feel helps you learn and improve the best

Finally, I would recommend that you set goals for how many questions you want to get right and you see improvement so if I’m the first day or at the beginning of the chapter you got five out of 10 correct, ideally you improve by the end of the chapter meaningfully enough to something like eight out of 10 or nine out of 10. Make sure you have some kind of a measurement process seat on the waist time and you can be agile

I honestly have never heard of this advice. Who is recommending this?

Yes, I need to make a preparation plan like you said. I don’t really know where to start, I’m still in the research phase, but I did a few pop quizzes about gmat to understand the format of the exam.

So you use tests to accomplish two things. 1. Do you want to check your score in to see if you’re ready and 2. Do you want to practice your timing and use them for practice purposes.

I think Manhattan tests are suitable for both purposes. However, most people and myself included, save one or a few of the official mocks to double check the score before taking the official gmat.

However, you can use this test to practice and observe consistent scores little help you see if you’re progressing and improving or stagnating.

You can also the benchmark yourself with one GMAT prep test and see if you know this much difference.

However, people do get substantial differences in scores even on the GMAT prep.

In my case, official mocks gave me an excellent ball park. I got average of test 1 and test 2 in the main exam.

Many posts on GMAT club resonate the thought that GMAC official mocks are an indicator of how one will perform in the main exam

Thanks for the reply.
I am a little apprehensive about verbal scores. I got served 80% of difficult questions on MGMAT mock, while it was not the same on official ones.

Most of the forum talks about Quant being difficult there. i wanted to know what I am experiencing in verbal on MGMAT is in line with what I should on final day, or MGMAT is trying to prepare us better with more harder questions.

The GMAT prep tests are the best tool but not always precise or accurate. Just fyi. Sometimes those scores are higher for a number of reasons. Many examples. Here are a few from the past week: esr-analysis-please-416508.html

It is great you got the OG. But it is not sufficient by itself as it is just a question bank (a very valuable but still just half of what you need to succeed) . You need strategies, fundamentals of math and CR (no longer grammar I guess) and that’s what books and courses are focusing on. Many integrate official questions into them.

There is not that much of a difference between the two versions. The class if GMAT has grammar which many find to be the easiest of the verbal sections.

GMAT focus has IR, which some find annoying but less strenuous to prep for

I would consider which enemy you would rather fight. Would you rather deal with grammar or would you rather deal with.

Hi BB, One question on exam retaking. I had a gmat score that expired (750 -Used it for first masters). Now I am planning for a second one. On my friend’s suggestion, I switched gears and took EA (Scored 165 - q18, v13 and IR 14) with zero prep. GMAT prep from 5 years ago helped. Now I am in a situation where should I prepare and score more or take 165 as a good score . Target school has average EA score of 155 and middle 80 percent (149-160).

Wow! 750 is awesome!!!
I have seen another 760 scorer do 4 hrs of prep and score a 740 and then get 760 with a few weeks of prep.

So I think you will be able to get close to 750 without a major review, in a few weeks… are you applying for Full time or EMBA?
