Hello everyone, did anyone experince the same feeling i redid the gmat exam four times. Each time my score got worse, 1st time 420, the 410 and today I got 330. Can anyone help me, i need to increase the score to above 600 because I thinking of applying to universites in round 2 2018. I work in the morning so I have limited time. I had personal turors and classes, however nothing helped.

Thank you so much.

Hi Noofar,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long did you study for each attempt at the GMAT?
2) What study materials have you used for each attempt?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hello Rich,

I study for two-three months before the exam.
I have used several materials such as gmat books, and informal books from my tutors.
I am planning to apply to LBS, NYU, Toronto University, INSEAD and so forth.

I need to apply now before their deadlines in January 2018. It is a tight schedule. I work in the morning for around 8 to 9 hours a day. Five times a week. I can study for two-three hours a day and I am free during the weekend.

I tried having private tutors but that didnt help at all. so I am planning to study by myself now.

Thank you
Noof

PS I am planning to schedule a gmat exam sometime mid-jan 2018.

Hi Noofar
Sorry to hear about your GMAT score. However, did you order ESR and find out the weak points.
A score of 330 means you have to study all fundamentals. You can refer to the MGMAT guides as they are one of the best. You can subscribe to the Gmatclub self study plan that will send you daily plans for study and practice questions.

Hi Noofar,

Since you took the Official GMAT 4 times, I really need specific information about how you studied for each attempt. Your last post did not provide much information, so you'll need to be more specific with your answers before I can offer you the specific advice that you're looking for.

1) How long did you study before EACH attempt at the GMAT?
2) What specific study materials have you used for EACH attempt?

Some of the Schools that you listed are highly-competitive, so you will likely need a GMAT Score that is far higher than a 600 for some of your applications. Which School is your first-choice School?

HI Noofar,

Please do not be discouraged. Kindly go through the concepts first and solidify your base in Quant and Verbal. I believe you may benefit from taking a GMATPREP course. If you are willing, there are some great GMAT prep companies that can help you with your preparation.

In order to make an informed decision I would highly encourage you to go to their websites and try on their free trial and decide for yourself which one do you like better. You try out free access to EmpowerGMAT, Magoosh and Optimus Prep as they have great reviews on GMATCLUB.

Also for verbal, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

You can also try out the Foundation of GMAT Math by MGMAT and MGMAT Strategy guides as they are phenomenal and cover the entire syllabus really well.I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

I would also encourage you to purchase the latest version of OG and the verbal review for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.

https://gmatclub.com/forum/best-gmat-ve ... 68383.html

Lastly, you can check out a very interesting article by Mike McGarry from Magoosh detailing a 3 month study plan

https://magoosh.com/gmat/2012/3-month-g ... -students/. You will find it very helpful as it gives out a study plan as per your needs.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Noofar - the key to acing the test is to learn and apply the right methods. Take a look at how others have prepared and improved. You definitely need to work on both quant and verbal.

Hi,

First of all if u want you can improve in a month time - all you need is right approach and lots of practice. Practicing properly is the key.

I also kind of improved in a month time : https://gmatclub.com/forum/try-to-avoid ... l#p1968174
Try to check mistakes and advices.

So believe in yourself and start preparing.

Try to find the approach which will suit you. Different approach work for different people.

Here are few points:
1. How are you measuring your score? you gave gmatprep tests or used some other tests? Also what is your sectional scores?
2. Focusing only on Quant or Verbal will not help you. You need to work on both sections. But if quant is your strong suit try to score high in it and try to get average score on Verbal and vise versa,
3. Can you please tell how exactly are you preparing for different sections ? Like what you do when you get a quant or verbal question wrong ????
4. Just solving questions will not help you. Properly understanding the solution is very important.
5. As you are working 8-9 hours a day, properly utilizing your evening and weekend is important. Make a study schedule and stick to it,
6. Utilize gmatclub forum. Go over a few debriefs, it will help you understand how people prepare and how they improved there scores.
7. Study plans for both quant and verbal section are available on forum, try to go over them and see which one interests you.
8. Have you figured out why you scored low on your latest test. What differences you see between your multiple tests ?

Try to go over the points and try to figure out gaps in your preparation.
Let me know if you need any help.

All the best :) :)

Dear All,

Thank you so much for all of the encouragement. I am getting fired up. I am just starting to do my study plan schedule and time manage myself.

As for Rich,
the preparation that I did for the gmat exam that I took two weeks ago, was (as follows):
I studied for 2 months before the exam:

1) I took private lessons for one month (3-times a week for 2 hours) and I used Peterson's GMAT Book (2017 edition).
2) And I used some unofficial guides for my own self-study (2-times a week for 3-4 hours) and during weekends as well.
3) I didnt do any gmat prep exams.

Thanx alot Noof

Hi Noofar,

Taking realistic, FULL-LENGTH CATs (with the Essay and IR sections) at regular intervals is an essential part of the GMAT training process. As such, you should plan to take a practice CAT every 1-2 weeks. Given your Official Scores - and the Schools that you want to apply to - you're going to have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. All of that training will likely take at least another 3 months of consistent, guided study, so you might want to consider pushing back your Test Date and your application plans.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
