Hi all,
I am confused while filling out the forms for US and EU b-schools. I don't have a surname and all the schools are asking for a surname as mandatory. Problem is ,I have Rohan kumar as my given name in the passport and the surname field is blank. On contacting the regional passport officer, he denied allowing any change in passport as I don't have any document explicitly mentioning my surname. How to move forward?Please help.

Did you not face an issue while appearing for GMAT?

The best course of action in such a case is to ask for a clarification/waiver from the B-school authorities. Also, don't forget to attach the GMAT Scorecard along with the mail query.

Mention the name as it's given in your passport..
It's surprising that passport was issued without surname..
You can submit an affidavit and make changes in passport..

I don't have a surname in my passport. My full name "Elizebeth Sunny' is written in the given name space. On my US B1/B2 Visa, my surname is "Elizebeth Sunny" and my first name is "FNU" or First Name Unknown. Since surname is mandatory, the US embassy asked me to add my given name in surname space and add first name as FNU.

Happy to help! This is a common known issue among Indian passport holders. I have my 10 year US B1/B2 visa approved under the name "FNU Elizebeth Sunny". I have traveled to US multiple times on this visa and this has never created any problems at the US immigration. However, my Schengen visas have my full name repeated as the first name and the surname. It reads "Elizebeth Sunny Elizebeth Sunny".
For bschools, you might want to match your name to what is on your GMAT.
