Hey, I’ve taken 2 of the official gmat mock tests and I scored Q 49 and Q 48, but my my sentence correction is very weak and is pulling my score down significantly. My verbal scores are 31 and 34, for the last one, I got 10 out of 14 SC wrong, both CR and RC combined I got only 3 wrong. Any tips on how can I improve my SC?
I have
Magoosh subscription and I've gone through all of its videos and most of its questions. I really want to improve as quickly as possible, but I'm not able to identify where I'm going wrong.
Hello,
achuthgovind. You have definitely posted your query in the wrong manner, since it is appearing as a question. But to help you out, if I were you, I would make better use of the forum, looking up any questions you did not answer correctly to see if someone has addressed the error you chased. I like to say that in any Verbal task, you do not really understand what you are doing until you can disprove four answer choices each time. Occasional misses are fine, but in review, you still want to shoot for 4/4—i.e. you can put a finger on exactly what makes each incorrect answer incorrect. Otherwise, you are much more likely to chase poorly constructed answer choices the next time you see similar issues pop up. Taking on more questions is not the answer, but taking away everything you can from a smaller pool of questions—hopefully official ones—can help you considerably when you get back to practice.
There is no quick fix to SC. You have to combine a strong understanding of grammar with a meaning-based approach to get the upper hand on the material. You can try a print guide, but since you already have access to
Magoosh, make use of it. Watch videos a second time if you need to and take notes. Just listening to someone tell you how to do something is not the same as taking steps to internalize those lessons.
Good luck.
