Congrats to all admits!!
I am an Indian with a 680 GMAT. Have admits from Olin (no scholarship) and Ivey with $. Work Experience - 3 years in a Big 4 Consulting firm (not directly in a management/strategy role) + 2 years in a non profit.
I am looking at a function shift broadly.
Short term goals - Management/Strategy Consulting.
I would be extremely thankful if you could help make an informed decision. Also, I have very little information about job prospects in Canada post MBA. Also, what are the odds of getting into US through Canada?
Please advise.
Thanks!
Hi Shubsamania,
My thoughts...
Post MBA Location: if you want to work in the US go to a US school and if you want to work in Canada go to a canadian school... No to gamble with visa restrictions and what not. I hear the Canadian job market is not too good at the moment but I'm sure with an MBA from Ivey plus Big 4 experience you should be fine should you take that route
Finances: While I don't know what portion of Ivey's fees your scholarship covers, if finances are a big issue for you (i.e. you are reluctant about taking on debt for business school), you might want to consider the cheaper option.
Timing: Getting the Olin admit with a 680 GMAT is an indicator that the other parts of your application are somewhat strong. Do you want to consider taking the GMAT again prior to the enrollment decision deadline and if you have a higher score (700+) then you can have a conversation with Adcom about some scholarship aid. Alternatively if age is on your side, you might also consider Round 1 of the next admission season later this year.
Outcomes: If you really want management consulting, you may want to have a second look at your school choices. Olin only sent 11% of the class of 2015 to management consulting roles. I don't know the job stats for Ivey you might want to look that up.
Hope this helps!
Cheers
