Ugh Evan Bouffides quit in December. They better still honour the scholarships and stuff lol

Need to contact Ashley now that she is the only one who knows all the MBA stuff I think

Hi stevkang,
Is there a reason why you think that Olin might not honour scholarships?
As I've never heard of anything like this... I'm kinda curious.
Has it happened before?

I dont know whether it has happened before, but the communication with Olin has been pretty bad, maybe I will just call them sometime today.

hey, my scholarship letter is signed by Ashley. What difference does it make if some 'Evan Bouffides' quit in december? I do not think there is anything to worry. Whats your opinion?

Did you finally hear back from Adcoms on the Cost of Attendance for completing the DCOF?

So is mine. I emailed her to ask for a better scholarship but haven't heard back yet. It has been 6 days, so I think communication is really a negative point of Olin this year.

Hey,

I am an Indian with a 680 GMAT. Have admits from Olin (no scholarship) and Ivey (15,000 CAD scholarship). Work Experience - 3 years in a Big 4 Consulting firm (not directly in a management/strategy role) + 2 years in a non profit.

I am looking at a function shift broadly.

Short term goals - Management/Strategy Consulting.

I would be extremely thankful if you could help make an informed decision. Also, I have very little information about job prospects in Canada post MBA. Also, what are the odds of getting into US through Canada?

Thanks!

Hi Shubsamania,

My thoughts...

Post MBA Location: if you want to work in the US go to a US school and if you want to work in Canada go to a canadian school... No to gamble with visa restrictions and what not. I hear the Canadian job market is not too good at the moment but I'm sure with an MBA from Ivey plus Big 4 experience you should be fine should you take that route

Finances: While I don't know what portion of Ivey's fees your scholarship covers, if finances are a big issue for you (i.e. you are reluctant about taking on debt for business school), you might want to consider the cheaper option.

Timing: Getting the Olin admit with a 680 GMAT is an indicator that the other parts of your application are somewhat strong. Do you want to consider taking the GMAT again prior to the enrollment decision deadline and if you have a higher score (700+) then you can have a conversation with Adcom about some scholarship aid. Alternatively if age is on your side, you might also consider Round 1 of the next admission season later this year.

Outcomes: If you really want management consulting, you may want to have a second look at your school choices. Olin only sent 11% of the class of 2015 to management consulting roles. I don't know the job stats for Ivey you might want to look that up.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Hey Thanks a lot for your inputs.

What according to you are the advantages and disadvantages of working in Canada/US post MBA.

My scholarship covers approx 20% of my tuition. Its a 1 year MBA so cost is less.

Ivey is the best school in Canada for consulting with approx 30% of graduates getting into it.

Request you to share your inputs based on this information. Thanks!

I just did actually. She said they are still computing the new numbers so we should just sit tight for now and it will be released in a few weeks.

Damn I need to get my visa lol hopefully it wont take that long.

Congratulations on your admission to Olin! I don't think many current students are active on GMAT Club right now. I myself logged in for the first time in months. This is a very busy time of the year for both students and the admissions team. I suggest you direct your questions to students on the "Ask A Student" page on Olin website. I will try to check these threads more often in the coming weeks if I can.

Answers to some of the questions I see here right now:
1. Living expenses would be less than $12000 per year on average. (Have been for most people I know at least)
2. Consulting recruiting is picking up at Olin ;)
3. St. Louis is safe. Many of us were concerned about it too, but it is much much safer than what you may think looking in from the outside.

to put an end to all the rumors, i spoke to Ashley and she said the scholarship decision is taken by a committee and not just one person. therefore, the scholarship letters signed by Ashley will not be changed. :)
