Thanks for your replies!

I wasn't advised by a school, it was a general advice I got based on my background (actually, two separate people suggested it).

I forgot to mention that I only plan to apply in 2013, maybe 2012. So I'm not in a rush, I'll have my first go at the GMAT at the end of this year.

I would only take MBAmath if you were applying this year and so needed to take something quickly. I was advised by a school (YSOM) to take a course or two to bolster my academic profile, and at the time they said MBAmath would be ok but a university course would be preferable.

I did an online course through UC Irvine Extension due to time constraints. I would recommend looking at UCLA Extension. If money is no object, then look into Harvard Extension. The courses there are ~$2,000 but if you have money to burn the name will certainly look good on your app.

Thank you for your suggestions brainhurt. I'll look into what these universities have to offer. Would you mind if I'd PM you later on if I have some questions about this topic?

A quick question: I guess I need the graduate credited courses, not the undergrad credited, right?

Hi GPT55,

We had a client who signed up for MBAMath.com and was subsequently accepted into the UCLA Anderson EMBA program. A UCLA admissions committee member later told him he was accepted because he had signed up for MBA Math. I have copied the case study below and you can visit the URL here:

https://www.stacyblackman.com/blog/page/2/

Derek was yet another client who was really lacking in the quantitative portion of his application. His undergraduate performance was significantly below par, especially in math and quant courses. This was simply because he was not terribly focused on school as a young adult. He goofed around and did not take it seriously – and it showed.

After graduation, he joined a media company, where he stayed for twelve years. Although he did well and progressed nicely, the roles were not at all quantitative, so he still had nothing to back up those skills. When he took the GMAT, it was another strike – the 620 score was low, particularly in the quant section.

He applied to the UCLA Anderson EMBA program, and was waitlisted. As he was an EMBA applicant twelve years out of school, we knew that they were more concerned with his ability to navigate their program, then they were about him not taking school seriously over a decade ago. His performance at work, his essays and recommendations were proof that he had matured and was serious about his career and about achievement. However, he had no proof of quantitative ability and we knew he needed to do something to boost their confidence in his skills. Unfortunately, the timing and his travel schedule made it so that he was not able to take a Calculus or other quant class, or retake the GMAT.

He ended up signing up for MBAmath.com, a self-paced online course covering topics relevant to an MBA curriculum. He passed quickly, with flying colors, and was eventually granted admission to UCLA. UCLA admissions told him that the course made the difference for them in terms of clearing up their concerns.

*Please note that no client details are ever shared in SBC Scoop or otherwise without complete sign off from client.

Hope this was of help.

Cheers,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team

I am awaiting what most likely will be my final ding of the season, so barring a complete surprise, I am now preparing to take a few quant courses this summer. I was wondering whether anyone had any thoughts about the recommended course load for UCLA Extension's online courses? I would like to take 2-3 this summer, but since I am working full time and will be starting fall 2012 applications toward the end of the summer, I don't want to go overboard with it. I took an accouting course through UCLA Extension about a year and a half ago, and I got an A in it, but it was surprisingly time consuming...

I took some time to look through the UCLA Extension website and I have a question I hope you can answer.

If I only need a class to build an alternate transcript for MBA application, do I need to take a Degree Credit Course or any course will do?

Also could someone who took classes tell me when these classes are held? I live in Europe and I fear if all classes are offered in the evening PST that means that I'd need to take classes on weekdays aroung 2-3 a.m. CET. Yikes...

Hi,
If your Math grades are poor you can try to give AGRE maths; its a GRE Subject Math exam. But do it only if you want to go in Fin Engg.

This one also seems a good option:
https://freegregmatclass.com/.

Also it has old recording of the classes.
