I do not understand why has signified suggests a completed action. This is present perfect: the event started in the past and continues into the present. So, why is it wrong to say has signified?

Explanation: "Have suggested does not agree with term; the verb tenses suggest a completed situation rather than an ongoing one."

I do not understand why "Have suggested does not agree with term. What is wrong with:The term may have suggested?

in first case 'signified' means an action is completed and over n it has no relevance in d present..whereas d original sentence says that the term graphic design still signifies the work..here d action continues and it is not over. so in first case past tense changes d meaning of d sentence. so we need signify which is in present tense..

in second case also 'signified' becomes past tense and changes d meaning.
moreover d original sentence is in present tense(c d verb 'may' n it is not 'might')
