Shail88 madgmat2019

1. GMAT Score ( yet to give)

2. Work Experience 9+ yrs of experience in Retail Merchandising, Franchise & Brand Management
2 yrs of international experience ( Gulf & Africa)

3. Industry: Retail
4. Academics: X 80. XII 75
5. Background (Engineering / Commerce / Arts etc.): Bachelor of Fashion Technology from NIFT Hyderabad (4yrs )
EPG Certificate from IIFT in International Business

Standout - International Experience, Demonstration of commitment - working while managing family commitments and preparing for MBA, Retail industry experience supported by undergraduate studies, Underrepresented applicant pool (Fashion tech), EPG credential

Focus Areas - High work experience for a full time MBA (full time vs executive MBA option considerations, cost of opportunity, GMAT preparation (690-700 range and above), Extra curricular activities. It would also be important to focus on significant work experience and how it can be beneficial to classroom learning experience.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

GMAT Score - yet to appear targeting 710+
2. Work Experience- 4 yrs in a top IT service provider as a software developer
3. Industry - IT
4. Academics - 71/100 not a top tier clg
5. Background (Engineering / Commerce / Arts etc.) - Engineering-
6.Extracurriculars- Represented university in all India university sports tournament for 2yrs, working in education related NGOs since 2yrs
Post mba- product manager roles

Standout - Extra curricular (Education sector NGO experience), University sports representation

Focus Areas – Over represented applicant pool (IT), Academics – Good GMAT score should compensate and demonstrate the improvement (For a High GMAT Score -Quant is generally a strong competitive advantage due to engineering curriculum, Verbal would require fair bit of effort), Demonstrating growth in professional career

Based on the above facts, in summary this is a balanced profile but which could be really boosted with a high GMAT score.

The profile is from a non over represented pool (IT, Engineering), Web business experience (could blend in with entrepreneurship story)
Work experience near average range.

Focus Areas - Academics (should be offset by high GMAT score), Applying in R1 since there is time to plan ahead,
Extra curricular activities.

To sum it up, it seems a balanced profile.

With patience and persistence, if you can manage a high GMAT score - with decent essays, LORs and interview preparation it is worth putting in that application.

Good luck with your preparation.

Hi sukritidutta01

Thanks for reaching out to YMBAS and good luck on your B school planning journey.

Work experience - In target medium range. Strong Extra curriculars, Niche professional experience - Industrial Automation

Focus areas - Over represented Pool (Engineering), Academics (while not a concern, this would be helped with an good GMAT score), For post MBA goals - could pursue certifications / online courses to demonstrate background knowledge and initiatives

Well balanced profile.

Good luck with your GMAT preparation, it would be more suitable to have detailed discussion once you have taken the exam.

Hi aakarsh07,

Nice GMAT score there. Average score for ISB (based on the class profile of 2020 is 710).

ISB looks for the following attributes in an MBA applicant:
1. Academic Excellence- which I can clearly see in your profile
2. Better than the average performer
3. Diversity in your personality

ISB clearly wants to see if you work better than the average performer in your workplace and what more do you spend your time doing outside of work.
If you could share some examples from your work experience in i-banking and some examples of you do outside of wark (could be anything: games, community service, blogging, meetups etc.) then I would be able to analyse your chances better.
It would also be essential to understand your post-MBA goal in order to provide a fair evaluation of your profile.

If you’d like, I am happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances in further detail.
Feel free to book my calendar as per your convenience.

Really looking forward to hear your story out!

Cheers!

Hi jbatra,

Wow! Such an interesting profile there! And the mention of DTU/DCE always brings back sweet memories.

ISB is a good choice and matches pretty well with your post-MBA goals. ISB looks for the following attributes in an MBA applicant:
1. Academic Excellence- which I can clearly see in your profile
2. Better than the average performer
3. Diversity in your personality

If you are able to score a 330 on your GRE, I can clearly see a mix of all three in your profile. Getting awarded unsolicited bonus for being a high performer in 2019 is just a perfect example to start talking about 'Point 2: Better than the average' in your application. And you being a 'Dilettante Quora Writer with over 600,000 views' plus other things in your profile very clearly showcase diversity in your personality.
What’s going to matter most in your application is how you connect the experiential dots and build a great story to stand out from other applicants in the pool. Make sure you are connected with the school's values throughout your application.

If you’d like, I am happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances in further detail.
Feel free to book my calendar as per your convenience.

Btw, I am very curious to find out more about your NASA Lunar Mining experience in 2013 (I am a space buff myself).

Cheers!

Thanks Shantanu for the prompt review, I will be in touch.

My NASA Lunar experience was more about me being a Robotics Enthusiast back in freshman year in 2013. I don't really remember much.

Team of seniors did everything, I was just involved in wireless testing and debugging plus makimg sure of logistics and all. Like you know 11th man in cricket.

I wish I could mention more but not worthwhile.

Hi aakarsh07

We are happy to help and good luck on your B school planning journey.

Highlights - Sufficient GMAT Score though generally it tends to go higher for engineering pool applicants due to strong Quant focus, Work Experience (Near Average Range), Stellar Academics, No Over represented pool (IT, engineering)

Focus areas - Extra curricular, anything to showcase outside professional experience would be super helpful, showcasing how I banking experience can help in experiential class room learning

Based on the above stats, this is a strong profile. Go smash that application.

……………………………............................................................................................................................................................................

Strong educational background (DTU is well recognized if applying locally to ISB, it might not have the same visibility for international B schools), Stellar Academics

Focus Areas -Post MBA industry (why Consulting? ), Lack of extra curriculars, showcasing your international work experience, GRE score, Life outside professional realm (Quora, Tuition, Participation in various events), Over represented pool (Engineering)

Overall, it's a well-rounded profile which would be definitely helped good GRE score, strong essays, LoRs and interview preparation.

1. GMAT Score - 730
2. Work Experience - 10 years by Dec’20
3. Industry- worked With GE Finance, worked with TCS digital Marketing, Worked with Nissan Motor. Function (Information Tech) was the same across all 3 industries
3 years of international experience(Brazil and UK). Also couple of months in Japan
Currently working a mad Senior Project
manager with a team of 20

4. Academics - 10th 78% ICSE board, 12th 84.2% state board Of AP

5. Background- (Engineering in Electronics & Telecom from BPUT, Odisha with a GPA of 7.15/10)

………………………………........................................................................................................................

Strong GMAT Score, International Experience - Would be good to showcase experience of working in a diverse environment, Info tech industry experience

Focus Areas - High work experience for a full time MBA which could sometimes result in mismatch in desired salary expectations (executive MBA as an alternative option as well), Academics (High GMAT score, would be more representative considering high work ex), Cost of opportunity (if pursuing full time MBA), Lack of extra curricular activities, Over represented applicant pool (engineering)

Based on the above facts, this is a well-balanced profile. This can be strongly supported through right essays, LORs and resume.

Hi sovish

We are happy to help and good luck on your B school planning journey.

Highlights – Decent GPA, Academics, No over represented pool (IT / Engineering), Professional background (New Media – would be useful to share some experiences), Scholarships (great stuff), Work experience close to average range.

Focus areas – Possible to show experiences outside professional realm? (Extracurricular activities), Would require some good reasoning on why the industry switch during interviews (if experience is not relevant), Highlighting your media experience and how that would contribute to experiential learning during classroom case studies and group discussions, GMAT Score Required.

Based on the above provided facts, this is a well-balanced profile. However, it would be prudent to evaluate further once you have taken GMAT.

Go get that infinity stone. Good luck.

Could you please take a moment to fill this feedback (It’s anonymous if you wish so).
