Hi Paul,
Perhaps you missed my earlier post I was wondering if you could go through my profile and advice me on the schools. I would really appreciated that. Thanks!
I am an Indian female. My GMAT score is 680 (Q46V37). I did my undergrad in Biology from one of the top ten Indian colleges and I passed with the first division. After that I did a post graduate course in Business Administration from a not so known school and again I passed with the first division (according to some websites that is equivalent to A grade in the US).
I have worked in media and communications industry for more than eight years with a global PR firm operating in India. I have led national and international campaigns for both MNCs (McDonald's, Whirlpool, Honda Cars, GE Money, Bristol Myers Squibb) and International non-profits(UNICEF, USAID, DFID). My recent work on the contraception campaign(for a non-profit), focused on increasing the sales and the awareness of the product, saw a 21% increase in sale(which is unprecedented) and was extremely effective. This campaign has won several international awards for its effectiveness including an award from the United Nations(Followed by a lot of stories in the Indian mainstream media on how I led this campaign and the challenges I encountered). These awards have helped my firm win substantial new business. At an individual level, I have won an Asia Pac leadership award from my organisation which is given when one demonstrates Client leadership, Workplace leadership and Team leadership.
In terms of EC and Volunteering - I have been involved with an informal organisation KLODB to increase people's interest in my city's history by organising heritage walks every Sunday in winter. I have also sponsored a girl child's education for a few years. I am an avid traveler with interest in hiking and river rafting. Infact, I won a Reach Out award from my organisation - this award is given on the basis of the essay you write about the dream you want to pursue and if selected the company would sponsor that dream for you (Yes my firm does interesting things sometimes). I talked about my dream to go for a river rafting expedition and sure I won it(an all expense paid river rafting expedition)!
I want to do an MBA because I feel the need to do more than just PR and I want to increase the scale (global) and scope of my work. My goal is to manage marketing campaigns at the global level with an eventual move to the non-profit side. I think I need to improve my analytical skills and polish my soft skills. I am looking for a school with a focus on General Management and Marketing. I am interested in applying at:
Kellogg/Wharton/Tuck/Haas/Yale/Cornell/UCLA Andersen...though I would love to apply at Stanford (as it has been my client for four years and I love the people and the culture) but given my GMAT and GPA I feel it would be a stretch.
Paul it would be great if you could give me your feedback.
