Hi Paul,

Here is my profile, if you could review and make some recomendations that would be great!

Age: 24
Gender: female
Race/Nationality: Indian

GPA: Goldmedalist, 87% average

Work: 2 years ( will complete 3 by Fall 2009) Working as Manager Operations of my chain of hotels in my family hotel business. We own 4 hotels,each at a different part of the country, out of which 2 are 4-star catergory hotels.

E/C: During undergrad was earlier the Joint Secretary and later the President of the students community. I also anchored and organised number of events at college and outside college as wel. Was also nominated as the President of the Rotract Club.

Currently have completed a small course in Accounting.
Currently involved in various activities of the Rotary Club, MAWE ( a club for women entrepreneurs of the city), and teach children living in small villages near the city. Also recently went as a representative of Rotary CLub from my city in the national annual rotary meet.

GMAT: 720

Concerns, low work-ex. I applied last year too, wth a 660 GMAT. Was waitlisted at Duke and interviewed at Cornell.

Goals: Expansion of family hotel business to all tourist major tourist destinations in the country.

Targets: Long Shot : Kellogs, Wharton
Tier 2 : Duke, Cornell ,Darden
Safe Options: Tepper, Kelley

Rish,

Interesting profile. The fact that you are female, have a strong GMAT, and have a management position in a nontraditional pre-MBA industry (hospitality) helps you I think. The fact that you were wait-listed at Duke and interviewed at Cornell with a weaker profile indicates you should be competitive at some good schools this year. I like your school selection and think you have a good idea of your chances. I wouldn't dream of discouraging you from applying to Kellogg. Areas of potential concern are, as you say, age/work experience, but also working for a family firm (which forces you to *prove* you have the job because you earned it and makes it harder to get good recommendations) and that your work experience is all in India (so you have to work harder to educate the adcoms in how to evaluate your achievements). You may also want to apply to Michigan.
