Dear Paul,

I would really appreciate if you can provide your comments on my profile/questions. I saw that all other posts have your comments but somehow 2 (mine and one other) profiles were not lucky enough to get your response.

Please let me know if I made a mistake in not following any rules to ask you questions. I would correct it.

Thanks
Vishal Goel

VISHGOEL,

You should mention the failed new venture in your apps. Entrepreneurship experience is leadership, which is always good. Your biggest negatives appear to be your age and the relative lack of depth of your extracurriculars. You also of course have the challenge of standing out in a crowded and competitive applicant demographic. I think you could target Chicago, Wharton, and Columbia as long shots; NYU Stern, MIT Sloan, Yale, and UCLA, as "competitive" schools and Rochester and Toronto Rotman as your safeties (either of which school could probably help you break into M&A if you do well there and are proactive in performing your own placement. In your apps, work hard at showing how your profile is distinct from your peers and make your goals as credible as possible. Build networks at the schools you target.

Good luck,

Dear Paul,

Thank you so much for taking the time and providing feedback. I totally agree with your opinion and I am preparing hard for my long shots. I am shooting for R1 for these schools, have visited them / planning to visit before applying. You book "Great App Essays" is also coming handy as writing guide :-)

Thanks once again.

Regards
Vishgoel
