Hello everyone.

Has anyone experienced Penalties for missing/not answering question in GMAT Focus Mocks/Official exams?

What is the Penalty like and how much it affects the percentile of your section?
I recently gave a mock, performed moderately but didnt answer 1 question in Verbal and 1 in DI. It affected my percentile score drastically. (I have attached a sceenshot below for reference.)

I believe the impact is quite high since in one of the earlier mocks I took, I nearly got the same number of correct/incorrect question and the percentile was relatively higher on that one.

Any guidance is appreciated.
Hi Arjun! Yes the impact is big when anyone misses a question, but ideally it shouldn't be that big. Did you get incorrect questions in a series in second test (especially towards the end of the test)? That's another reason for score drop as you may not get a chance to improve it. We can connect via DM as well if you want to have a detailed discussion.

It might be the case. The incorrect questions are well segregated in Verbal. However, in verbal, I left the last question and 2 questions before that were incorrect.

However, in DI, all the answers from 14-19th were incorrect and 20th was not answered by me.

Hello!
Yes, there is a huge penalty for not completing the test. However, we cannot conclude that 475 is because of the unattempted questions. There could be several reasons; maybe the difficulty of the questions answered incorrectly was low, so the scores dipped, or maybe a few consecutive answers were wrong.

The Understanding Your Score page on the MBA website may be helpful to check out. It mentions, for example, "three factors" Verbal Reasoning scores are based on:

"How its Scored: The Verbal Reasoning score is based on three factors: 1) the number of questions answered, 2) whether the answers are correct or incorrect, and 3) the difficulty and other parameters of the questions answered."

Hi. The penalty is huge in my experience. I have missed 2 questions and gotten 79 in quant so it is 4-5 points though I’m not sure if the penalty is expressed in points or in percentiles but it is indeed huge

There you go! :) The incorrect questions towards the end didn't allow you to bounce back and on top of that you had to leave the last question (owing to time constraints).
