I scored 640(Q-48, V - 29) in GMAT. I am planning to attend Ross School(Ann Arbor) Part time MBA from this Summer Semester. I don't have my application submitted yet. I'm working on my essays and hope to come out good with them. I've 7.5 years of experience in IT working as a typical programmer them presently working as an Analyst.
I expect my Recos to be pretty decent and have my essays to concentrate mostly on the strategic business processes, which I designed and implemented over a period of time resulting in the reduction of overhead cost to company(I've figures to submit).
But, my dilemma is to whether I can go ahead with applying to this School for this semester or try taking my Gmat again. I am ready to take a chance at this point of time. The average median score for part-time at Ross is 656. I'm little worried about wasting a chance in the admission process with a score less than the median score.
Any help/guidance is appreciated.

Does not hurt to apply. Average 656 in UofM should not deter you from applying. It is your accompanying materials that would matter the most. You do not have a very low score at all. So apply. At the most you will get a reject and the reasons for a reject. You can work on those the 2nd time round! I would be very happy with a 640!!!

THe median means that people are accepted with lower scores than that. In fact roughly half the class must have scores below the median. Your score is close enought to the median that I don't think your overall score is a problem.
What concerns me about your score is not the total, but the split, specifically the verbal score. If you don't want to take the GMAT again or are not confident you can raise your score, then take classes that will improve your verbal skills. Take classes like Communications for Business, Writing for Business, etc. But show the schools that you are working on those skills. Make sure the schools know you are working to improve that area of your profile.
