Hi Paul:
Thank you in advance for your help. I'd appreciate it if you could give me your thoughts regarding/ help me narrow down my list of schools to apply to:
These are my picks:
Columbia (stretch)
NYU - my #1 choice
Cornell
Duke
UVA
UNC
Georgetown
Vanderbilt
Background:
Female, 27, caucausian. Graduated from top 35 private University in 2003. Major: English, GPA: 3.25 GMAT: 680 (39Q, 44V), 6.0 AWA. Taking it again in Sept and hope to get 700+.
I spent 3 summers (including the one after college) as a tennis teaching private and group lessons at Harvard Tennis Camp & country club in Martha's Vineyard then moved to NYC.
Spent 1 year at a media agency in NYC - decided that was not fulfilling- wanted to get a job in real estate development. This was at the height of the condo boom in Manhattan and every neighborhood was rapidly changing, and I was very interested in the business from articles I read- and people I spoke to, so I did what I could to find a job in the field.
Have been working 2 1/2 years for a prominent real estate developer in Manhattan as an associate. My salary has increased by 15k, and I enjoy the business however what I really want to do now is work in Marketing for a real estate developer or brokerage firm. My education is extremely lacking in quantitative aspects, as well as economic/financial education and I believe an MBA is what I need to help me get this type of role at a larger development firm. I plan to focus in Marketing and Finance as to leave my options open as to whether I stay in real estate long term.
I took a Real Estate Investment & Income Analysis course at NYU last summer and received an A (highest grade on tests in the class per email from professor). I am taking a statistics class at NYU in Sept. to further my alternate transcript. I am very active in volunteering - tutoring inner city youth twice weekly during the school year, as well as activity in various other community service programs.
I'm hoping to get strong recommendations from my current boss and the principal of my company.
Based on what I have told you, please let me know my chances at the schools I listed. NYU is my #1 choice. My brother and my sister-in-law are both at Stern. My company developed the NYU Cancer Center. I'm hoping all of these connections will help me, but I want my resume on it's own to be strong.
Thank you,
Stephanie
