I am at the very early stages in the process and just looking for a little guidance on where I should focus my efforts and what is realistic. I don't know if I have any chance or if I'm just another run-of-the-mill candidate for top tier schools. Thank you in advance!
Age: 26 - White Male
GMAT: 710 44V 44Q AWA 6
Undergrad GPA: 3.7 Finance at Top 20-30 Undergrad Business program
Some masters in Finance coursework at State U - not complete - 1 year w/ 3.9 GPA
College Extracurriculars: Several leadership positions, Tutoring, etc.
Post-College: Not much - all time has gone towards CFA (studying for LII now)
Work Experience: 1 year Business Valuation for National Consulting Firm, 3 years Institutional Investing as Research Associate for mid-tier Investment Bank
First choice would be Chicago, Kellogg, or Tuck but also considering UNC, UVA, Ohio State.
Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thanks Paul!

Well, your numbers suggest you would be competitive at the schools you listed, but your post didn't indicate anything unusual or distinctive about your profile that would get most of these schools excited about you. Your extracurricular/community seems weak, which will hurt you at the top schools, especially if you don't have leadership stories at work to talk about. I'll assume there is more to your profile then you mentioned, but strictly on what you gave me I'd say your odds at Kellogg and Tuck are slim, somewhat better at Chicago but still long-shot. You have a better chance at Darden, a still better chance at UNC, and will be admitted by Ohio State.
