Hi,

Could you please evaluate my profile. Thank you!

I am from Armenia, post soviet small country underrepresented in all top MBA programmes in US.
Age: 28
Experience1 (past): 5 years - worked in big4 accounting firms in three neighboring countries (Russian, Azerbaidjan,Georgia -country), so I have exposure to international experience. - Line of services: Assurance (Audit) and Financial Advisory Services. Industires: wide range of industries: from commercial banks to airline companies and non-profit organisations.
Experience (current): 1 year - Assistant professor at Alma Mater. I swithced my career to make an impact on growing young people who can change the future of my country.
Post MBA- goals: work for a MC firm (McK, Bain, etc) or leading regional private equity. Than leave it to start up a PE shop in my country.
Extracuriccular activities: active member of leading political party. In addition other community service.
Leadership: strong.
GPA: 91% from top local university
GMAT: 640 (should I retake the GMAT? or my GPA may compensate for low GMAT score?)

First, your GMAT is a non-starter. You need to retake it, or else you're not getting in anywhere with a score like that (especially given your profile - you've got a relatively common background in Big-4 accounting). You need 700+ even to be considered at this point.

But even with a 700+, you should readjust your list of schools. Take out Wharton and Sloan (Round 2 - what is it this year with sooooo many people wanting to apply to Sloan Round 2 when they only have 2 rounds and their 2nd round is much harder to get into?) -- your chances are slim even with a 700+. Booth, Kellogg and Tuck will be stretches -- take out 1-2 of those schools. Cornell and Darden are sweet spots -- add 1-2 schools in this range (Duke, Michigan, Haas, UCLA, NYU, Yale). Schools outside the top 16 such as USC, Georgetown, CMU, Texas, etc are closer to being safeties.

And this assumes a retake on the GMAT witha 700+ score.

With your current score, you're limited to schools outside the top 16.

Thank you a Alex for excellent evalution.

I realise that my GMAT is the weakest point of my application. However, I have highlighted my other strenghts such as, underrepresented country, my international experience, wide range of industries I used to serve, two lines of business (not only accounting), very good GPA, and active participation in political issues in my country. In addition, I am teaching students transferring to them my knowledge and experience. All of this may cover those 60 points of the GMAT. For me, you know, it is too late to take the GMAT second time.
Don't you think that my profile, except for GMAT is rather competitive? OR all of the mentioned have every single big4 guy?

I will consider those schools you have advised me.

I think you're underestimating the kinds of applicants you're competing with. Virtually all of what you mentioned are things that many other applicants will have. As I said before, even with a 700+, you'll still have a tough time getting into these top schools.

And even if you were that much stronger of a candidate than most people applying to these top b-schools, it's not worth 60 points difference on the GMAT -- maybe 10-20 at most.

You may feel you're a solid candidate, but you're not any more accomplished than the other applicants out there from around the world who are also applying. There are a LOT of extremely solid and accomplished applicants, and even then, they have a hard time getting in.
