Here's the thing with Columbia (or any other school).

Columbia has *more* people interested in finance than other schools. But *more* doesn't mean *all*. Some of the biggest employers are consulting firms. Consumer products companies like Gillette, L'Oreal, etc. all recruit regularly from Columbia.

Same goes any school that has a good rep for a particular discipline (i.e. Kellogg is known for marketing, so there's certainly more folks there that are interested in marketing, but not *all* and not even *most* -- an army of Kellogg grads still go into consulting, banking, industry, etc.).

Having said that though, you may find some schools to be a better fit than others because of the students' career interests - you will likely find a better fit at schools where there are more people interested in the same kinds of careers as you are (yes, diversity is good when it comes to pre-MBA backgrounds, but it's still invaluable to have kinship and shared interests as well - especially with those who are interested in the same kinds of careers as you are).

Keep in mind that at the top schools, an additional avenue for recruitment comes through your fellow classmates - who will be sharing job leads with each other.
