Hi Paul,
I Plan to apply for the September 2012 Intake for some of the top B-School in the US. I would like to have some professional insight on my profile below.
Nationality- Indian
Age-23 (will be 24 in November)
Gender – Male
GMAT – 700 (Q-50, V-35) AWA-6.0
GPA – There is no GPA system in my university. It is percentage based. However I have good academic records and completed by BE in Mechanical engineering with a distinction(81%) . It is equivalent to a 3.6/3.7 GPA
Work experience: 3 years(as of September 2012)
- 4 months (Aug 2009 - Dec 2009) With Sterlite Industries India Ltd (A Mining Establishment) - Left the place because of the pollution and damage to nature and human life.
- 16 months (started on January 22,2010) with Global Engineering Systems FZC (UAE). This company is a total environment solutions provider. I am in the sustainable development division of this company and am specialising in Renewable Energy & Energy Management Consultancy.
Some important responsibilities executed by me include:
-Was a part of the team that was responsible for achieving 20% energy savings (Close to 3.7 million AED or 1 million USD) in one of the top hotel chains in the middle east.
-Developed and constructed an innovative and efficient solar street light design which is a stand alone system and depends only on limitless solar energy.
-Part of a team involved in the setting up of a solar panel manufacturing facility in southern india and participating in government tenders on installing solar energy in India.
-Lighting optimisation specialist with well-equipped knowledge in the use of DIALux - international testing software for lighting applications.
-Apart from the technical aspects, also involved in costing and profit related calculations for all the solar energy projects.
-Presented "Energy Conservation as potential for bottom-line improvement" in key exhibitions in the UAE.
-Manned stalls in Exhibitions to make people know more about the company and to make corporate relationships with some top clients.
Some Achievements
1.Got a certificate of merit for exemplary performance in "Physics" in National Level School Examinations (Graduating year from Senior School (12th Grade)
1.Did a mini project on "improving the efficiency of 4 stroke petrol engines by heating inlet air and eventually saving on fuel"
2.Did a fabrication project on "Spring Testers" which would be used to test wastegate springs in turbochargers.
3.Was the President of "Society of Mechanical Engineers" in my college and was involved in conducting seminars and bringing in key companies for campus recruitment.
Other Activities:
1.participated in Many School Level Drawing competitions.
2.Runner-up in a club level tennis competition.
3.Attended entrepreneurial development seminars.
My verbal score in the GMAT is less but I have done well in the quant & the AWA section. I have international work experience with my present employer. I would like to learn MBA to further strengthen investment related and financial aspects when it comes to renewable energy as such types of energy requires large initial capital which not much of the common crowd are able to afford, hence such forms of energy are realised only in the corporate and government level which is not enough for the growing energy demand plus this limitless power is not available for the poor and the downtrodden in some of the villages in India and all this because of the high capital which state governments area not able to procure.
In the short term i would like to work in a financial institution (ibanks-equity research...etc)...in the long term, I would like to start my own firm catering to the needs of the renewable energy and i would like to do this in INDIA....
To sum it up, i would like to be an enterpreneur, but am not interested in an enterpreneurial course, amd more interested in pursuing finance.....but at the same time realising my long term goals
I would like to know how competitive my application looks and my chances of getting into a good bschool. I plan to apply to 5-7 of the top30 b-schools in the US and also for an energy MBA in ISCTE Lisbon (I have very little knowledge about this school).
Please evaluate my profile and suggest on which colleges i could possibly apply to and any areas of improvement.
Thanks a lot!
Regrads,
Rahul Acharya
