Well the reason for the comment is primarily because you are in a very competitive applicant pool of IT applicants. By your own submission, it appears that you may not have a lot to differentiate upfront. But instead of speculating, I would recommend you do a lot of extensive research on school selection and fitment. The article here may help some.

R3 is not recommended in general since there are hardly seats left and even if you get in, there might be visa issues.
