Hi, please take a look at my profile. I intend to take the GMATs late summer (roughly 4.5 months to study) and apply for fall 2008 admissions, so I will be 26 when I goto school. Looking at potentially a marketing-related MBA. I'm a US national.
Age: 24
Undergrad: University of Colorado-Boulder (2000-2004) <- mostly known for science
Major: BS Business Administration, emphasis in Marketing; minor Economics
GPA: 3.1
Professional Experience
- 3 years in sales for a Fortune 50 company, managing ~ $4.5 million dollars in business (this is the job I took after graduation...still with the company, had 1 promotion; intend to work with this company until I start MBA)
Experience during college
- 3 month mktg. internship for an apparel company
- 1 1/2 year internship for the college's PR dept.
Leadership activities:
- formerly in my current company's employee relations committee (2005-2006)
- church small group leader (2006-present)
- church welcoming committee (2005-2007)
- volleyball intramurals team captain during college
- college chancellor's leadership program during my freshman year of college
Awards during college:
- multicultural business student association award
- excellence in leadership award
My target school is University of Washington (UW). Their GMAT average is 680. So my minimum score needs to be at least 650 (of course, the higher the better). Their average GPA is 3.5 so I'm on the low end.
What do you think about my leadership/extracirricular activities? I'm also currently a member of a local boxing gym right now...though I have no plans on competing, hahah I would get mauled. I'm considering joining Toastmasters (nat'l public speaking group) for 6 months to 1.5 years. Of course it will be nice to have that on my resume, but also to improve my public speaking skills.
If they have some sort of life experience essay that I can write, I went to South Africa for 2 1/2 weeks last year on missions trip. Visited the city, the countryside...I can certainly talk about the culture or the socio-economic landscape or whatever. Definitely a good experience to write about.
I will consider using my boss for letter of recommendation. An interesting thing to note is that he is a former president of UW's business school alumni association. He still is involved w/ the business school in some limited capacity. Do you think that will be of advantage for me? Of course, the drawback is that my boss will know I intend to return to school.
Thanks for your help. Let me know if any other information would be helpful.
