Hi Paul,

Thanks for your assessment - SBS is the Said School of Business, Oxford.

Regards,
Paddy

Paddy,

I knew that! :-) I think Said would be in your long-shot group but I would not discourage you from applying as long as you added to your list some more schools where you'd be more competitive.

Good luck,

Hi Paul,

Yeah - I guess I'm aiming a little high  But I was hoping that my profile would look better and gain some focus with some more detail. Perhaps you could relook and let me know if this changes anything.

I've been growing in leadership roles since the last two years in TCS (Asia's largest ITeS corporation). I have international work experience leading projects in India and Australia. The Leader of the Centre of Excellence role requires me to deal with projects and interact with clients and resources in North America, Mexico, Europe, South-East Asia, Australia. I was part of the group that actually set up the Centre of Excellence in the first place. And am currently working on setting up a geographically distributed project that will run simultaneously in Mexico, China and India.

My mission statement, similarly is related to the work experience I already have - to be at the interface of technology and business in the e-commerce/e-banking sector.

I've been thinking of adding Tepper to my list; while going through the website, I found they seem to stress the techie-business link... and that fits with my mission statement!

I do have fallback plans (worst case secnario: I hope I won't need to use them!). In case I don't make it to the target schools, I'll look somewhere in Asia - NUS, AIM, ISB. Asia seems to be a quite a hotspot at the moment.

Another thing I wanted some advice about is not being able to arrange for a school visit. Is it a good idea to contact the faculty through email? What sort of discussions are *kosher*?

Thanks again for your time.

Thanks & Regards,
Paddy

Paddy,

The additional info you gave me does strengthen your profile, so by all means apply to your top choices but don't apply only to them. I mentioned Duke, and Michigan for example. Tepper would probably be a safety for you as would NUS, AIM, and ISB. It's OK to contact faculty if you have substantive questions to ask them and you don't ask them to help you get admitted. Have a concrete reason for writing that no other faculty member could answer. That is, tailor your email to each faculty member, perhaps by showing your familiarity with their work.

Good luck,
