Targetting : NYU Stern, LBS , HEC Paris, SDA Bocconi , Wharton , Chicago , INSEAD
Indian ,IT engineer ,25 year old, 4+ years work ex
GMAT - 730 , Q 50 V 38 AWA 4
Undergrad - One of the top-10 engineering schools in India ( does that matter ?) , got scholarship a few times in the college. decent acads
GPA - Institute doesn't give GPA. graduated with honors ..72% . Didn't try converting coz some schools advised against it
Work - Will have 5 years if starting Fall 2008. Currently working as an IT consultant. Leading a team of 3. Working on a project for a leading Investment bank. 3 professional recognitions at firm level..two individual..one team award.
Extracurricular - During college, treasurer of the students'society and organised fests and took part in related activities and job placement etc.
After college, lot of mentorship experience and some other things like taking trainings and I also took initiative many times to get things done if that counts as leadership experience
Earlier achievements - Got national level scholarship for being among the top 0.1 % children in the country who got highest marks in Maths. Cleared the first (regional) level of Maths Olympiad.
Goals - short term goal, I want to do financial and strategic consulting
Long term goal, want to lead a financial consulting firm ( if that sounds realistic )
Please comment on the choice of schools and also which schools I should apply to apart from these or drop from the above list. I'm targetting only among top-20. My interest ( as mentioned above ) is in Financial and Strategic consulting.
Also, where do I lack in my profile and how can I make up for that lack.
I'm aiming for Fall'08.

Your GMAT score is competitive for the schools you listed but your leadership & impact in your career and outside of it do not appear to be strong enough for schools like Wharton, Chicago, INSEAD, and LBS. Your odds will be better at NYU Stern, Bocconi, and HEC Paris. But you are also in a difficult demographic (Male, Indian, IT), where you will have to work harder to appear memorable to the adcoms. You might want to consider CMU, Duke, UNC, USC, Indiana, Rochester among others. As for what you can do, you need to show more leadership.
