Hi Paul,
I would be thankful if you could please evaluate my profile.
My brief profile is as follows -
Indian/IT/Male/25years
Education -> Bachelors and Masters in Maths and Computing from IIT Delhi ( 2004 passout, GPA 7.4)
GMAT -> 740(51,38,5)
Work Ex -> would be 4 years including 16 months in a south east asian country. Besides this I had two internships of 2.5 months each in 2 European countries (2002 & 2003). Mainly R&D in telecommunications. moved into some leadership role recently.
Community Work -> Member of NSS in IIT. ( Activities include organizing blood donation events, conducting evening classes for adults and poor kids)
Started a small fund for supporting village children's education in my state.
Member of Company's community service initiative.
Extra Curricular -> In sports I've been member of school cricket team, hostel cricket team in IIT, corporate cricket team. I also played a significant part in starting a Cricket Club in the south east asian country. Besides that I have been member of Magazine Committee and Cultural Committee in my company.
On Job Achievement ->
1 Patent nominated for best patent award.
Member of a special task force which incorporated a new training program in Samsung.
Developed an out of the box tool to automate coding (some extent. special mention in companby magazine).
Ministry of human Resource scholarship in last year at IIT.
Leadership -> Although I didnt had the oppurtunity to lead a team in the official project, I had organized some team based activities and co-ordinated cultural activities in the company regularly ( I don't know how significant are these).
Reco -> I'll get one from a Foreign Manager and the other one from Indian.
Career Goals -> Want to move to management consulting post MBA. In the long term, I want to start an NGO which focus on rural education and rural development. (I have some plans on the education front) Currently although I am learning a lot about technology, i need business skills and exposure to execute my long term plan.
I think, I don't have anything substantial for Harvard/Stanford. Currently these schools are under my radar.
Wharton, Columbia, Chicago, Tuck, Kellogs, Haas, Ross, Darden,INSEAD.
Kindly tell me my chances in these schools. If the chances are slim, kindly tell how can i improve my chances and other schools which i should consider.

You have an outstanding GMAT score and a solid profile, but you are over-reaching IMO for two reasons: lack of formal or substantial leadership and membership in a highly crowded and qualified applicant pool: male, Indian, IT. For those reasons, I consider Wharton, Columbia, Chicago, Tuck, Kellogg, Haas, and INSEAD to be long shots for you. Your odds are better, though still shaky IMO, at Ross and Darden. To improve your odds I recommend ramping up your leadership profile at work and in your community. You are still young so a year wait won't hurt you. Otherwise, consider CMU, Emory, Duke, Notre Dame, and Georgetown in addition to Ross and Darden -- all these schools place a healthy percentage of MBAs in consulting.
