720 is totally possible in Aug '19.

Only advice is to complete Manhattan Advanced Quant book and retake the mocks

Thanks Mahmoudfawzy83

Thank you for your answer. As GMATclub ultimate guide has a lot of tough questions, dont you think with Q44 I should still focus on some ground concepts? I assume Q44 does mean I do not master them completely or not with the required time constraint. How tough is it to come from V38 to V40-41? What guides would you recommend? Already completed the OG

Thanks

You are right.
Generally, invest your time on known sources
Thus, especially for the 700+ questions, only focus on those from well-known book and course providers.
In my opinion, I find Veritasprep then Mathrevolution quant. questions tough but smart, so I recommend following them.
On the contrary, some times I hate Manhattan quant questions because they sometimes require tedious arithmetic and extensive try and error approaches which can never be on real GMAT.

note : I am a self-learner, no course, and A hardcore GMATclub user. I went though all the the syllabi of GMATclub ultimate guide, and I believe that 95% of them are ESSENTIAL if you really aim 48+.

Hello,

Did you order your ESR? I think it might help you identify some of your weak areas in the quant section. Your verbal score is good, so I guess you just need to keep practicing verbal so you can stay sharp. What was your accuracy on TTP? TTP is a comprehensive course and in my opinion, it has all you need to ace GMAT's quant. I recommend that you get your ESR and use it to identify weak topics to revise using TTP or whichever course you decide.

Best wishes!

Best wishes

Hi WillESP,

First off, a 680 is a solid Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. The Q44 will not 'impress' anyone though - and since you're interested in some highly-competitive Programs, a retest makes a certain amount of sense. As an aside you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and application plans. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

A Q44 means that you did pretty well on most of the 'math' questions that you faced in the Quant section on Test Day, but you made some little mistakes and you missed out on LOTS of 'strategy-based' points. This is the type of score that a typical 'math thinker' would earn (re: engineers, bankers, accountants, etc.). The Quant section of the GMAT is NOT a 'math test' though - it's a 'critical thinking test' that requires lots of little calculations as you work through it. To score at a much higher level in this section, you need to become more of a 'strategist' and less of a 'mathematician.'

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

1) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi WillESP,

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. First off, given that your prep was not too thorough, 680 is not a bad start! Moving forward, you need to ensure that your preparation is more complete. Thus, for your quant prep, you need to follow the regular TTP study plan (not the accelerated plan) exactly as it’s presented, and complete the course IN FULL. If you can do so, there is no reason why you can’t score Q48+ on test day.

Regarding timing, it may be challenging to improve to a 720+ score by August if you can study only on the weekends. The best thing you can do is give yourself as much time as you need to really improve your GMAT quant and verbal skills, and then take the GMAT when you truly are ready to do so.

Certainly, if you’d like to speak further regarding your study plan, feel free to reach out to me directly.

Hi WillESP.

For Quant I would suggest you go thru Manhattan Quant guides and couple them with GMAT club tests, which help you reach Q 48+.

Hello all,

Let me sum up my profile:

Age 24, Italian graduated from national top school (studied two degrees simultaneously) with quite good (not excellent) GPA, international work experience and extracurricular awards. Currently working for top consulting firm (MBB), aiming to go to M7 class of '22 or '23, where the avg score (my target score) is ~730.

This journey started September last year, when, without even knowing what the GMAT was, I went for my first attempt with literally no preparation (3 days lol). Scored 570 (obviously).

I let it go for many months, as I would not be applying for any b-school until August this year (early season in CBS). Convinced that I needed some studying, I started preparing ~2 months ago (could take advantage of one week of holidays and also dedicated all 8 weekends to study ~8 hours a day). Took the TTP accelerated course and kept practicing verbal on GMATclub, though was mostly dedicated to training quant, as it is definitely not my field of expertise. Bought all mock tests and took them.

EP1 and EP2 went pretty well, as I remembered some questions from those 3 days I prepared the first attempt, so I won't even mention the scores. Rest of the tests were 690, 700, 720 and 700 again (although I did not strictly respect the rules of 8 minute breaks and not pausing the exam at any moment..). Though I had not reached my score, I decided to take another shot last week and scored 680 (Q44, V38). I felt time was running crazy fast, many of the concepts I thought to have clear did not work out through the questions (especially in Quant, where I ended up guessing a bunch of questions). On the other hand, one of the RC passages seemed totally impossible for me due to both its complexity and my fatigue (left Verbal for last). I left the test center absolutely disappointed with myself and a bit lost on what next steps to take.

I am still decided to prepare my applications for this August, but I need some advice on how to proceed. How tough is it of coming from a Q44 to a 48+? What source should I use? As I said, I already took the accelerated TTP course (though being honest did not complete each exercise as they command (so, no blame on them). What other sources are decent for quant and verbal preparation? Is it feasable to score 720+ before August being only able to study on weekends?

Thanks for your time, I really appreciate it.

Hi WillESP

Firstly, 680 isn't such a bad score.

Your basics concepts seem to be in place. A full-fledged GMAT online or classroom course might not make sense for you.

It could be possible that you are facing issues with specific concepts on the GMAT or need guidance with advanced 700+ level questions.

You could look at GMAT Personal Tutoring Sessions to determine your problem areas and learn strategies to tackle them successfully
