Dear Stratus Admissions Counseling,

I plan to apply for a Master program which strongly focuses on research so that I can develop my technical skills and build network with professors to apply for PhD program later. Therefore, I really need your advice regarding which master programs should I apply for.

My profile:

Vietnamese Female, 26 years old
GMAT (16.03.18): 740 (Q:50, V:39, IR:8, AWA:5)
Passed CFA Level II in June 2015
Double bachelor degree from:
- Colorado State University (graduate: 05.14) - GPA: 3.98/4.00 (Summa Cum Laude Degree)
- Foreign Trade University (graduate: 07.14) - GPA: 9.13/10.00

Work Experience: 3+ years
1. Internship with Vinataba – Philip Morris Ltd, Ho Chi Minh City Branch – Finance Department: (2 months)
- Practiced using SAP accounting software to manage Accounts Payable; Verified vendor invoices and supporting documents;

2. Full-time employee of Ernst & Young Vietnam - Advisory Department - Hanoi Office: (~ 3 years)
- 1.5 year in Staff I position: involve in financial related projects, notably a project in Public - Private Partnership (PPP) which aims to develop the institutional framework for PPP investment in Vietnam and appraises bankability of a pilot PPP project;
- 1 year in Staff II position: involve in HR. related projects, which focus on review organizational structure of corporates and provide recommendations for improvement;
- 06 month in Senior position: involve in HR. related projects, which focus on improving performance of employees via KPIs and Competency framework.

Short-term goal: Enroll in a Master in Finance/ Master in Management program. Develop necessary skills for research and build network with professors (especially those who work in PPP field). Write thesis about how to develop PPP financing instruments for developing market such as Vietnam.
Mid-term goal: Apply for a PhD (with full scholarship) and continue to research on PPP financing topic.
Long-term goal: become a PPP financing expert and work for international banks in PPP financing projects.

At the moment, I am applying for the Master in Business Research and Master in Management Program of Mannheim University in Germany. However, I would like to learn about other potential master programs that I can apply to.
- I want to start my master study in September 2018, thus I can only apply for programs whose deadline extend to April/ May/ June.
- Because of limited budget, I can only apply for inexpensive programs (like Mannheim’s programs), or programs with high potential of scholarship.

I hope to receive your advice.
Thank you very much.

One way to approach this is to look at which schools have representation on the board of key journals-- such as http://afajof.org/page/Officers Journal of Finance-- you can see officers here http://afajof.org/?page=EditorialBoard from the usual like H/S/W but also some other good programs like U Washington, NYU, Johns Hopkins and UNC and UT Austin. I particularly want to call your attention to Johns Hopkins as your stats much higher than their avg-- and yet a great program-- and so maybe you could be a scholarship candidate there-- best of luck!
I hope to receive your advice.
Thank you very much.
