Hi
I want to do my MBA in Operations Mgt. I got admits from Penn State University and Georgia Tech University. (with full scholarship in both)
Please help me decide between which of the two universities to attend for this particular specialization. I'm talking mostly in terms of the number of Job opportunities for Operations Mgt. in the Manufacturing sector or FMCG industries and also my chances of excelling there and actually landing a good job even though I have a completely software related background. (software Eng: 2.5 yrs of exp). Please note that I'm looking to switch my career completely from software background.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!
First of all congratulations for both schools.
Both schools are really big schools in terms of supply chain concentration as both have master in supply chain. In terms of school ranking, both are close to each other. The supply chain curriculum is almost the same so both will provide high quality education. However, the curriculum in other branches( especially marketing and strategy) is more diverse at GTech than at Penn. It is important as you want to complement your supply chain study with other branches. So you need to check the curriculum page in both and decide. Both are presented in websites. Also, both have supply chain centers for continuing education, if you want to know the state-of-art in the at field.
In terms of jobs, GTech has upper hand as whole mba program. However, 40% of Penn goes to supply chain while 14% of GTech go to supply chain. So MBA career in Penn focuses on supply chain. You should analyze numbers and recruiters in both career reports. You are lucky to have them posted in each report.
In terms of industry, Penn state have access more to manufacturing companies and FMCG as those are located in Midwest more than in south. South has distribution centers which big industry. GTech posted some companies that you visit its website such as HD supply.
In terms of cost of living, Atalanta is higher than state collage. Some people will see it as opportunity to live in major city for network and to get access to recruiters. For me, I know both places and love state collage but this is me.
Finally, when it comes to supply chain. there is also a big reference I will send to you.
Good luck
