I think you should retake since:
1. 3rd percentile is really bad. 50th would be passable but 3rd is terrible
2. it will take you one week to raise your score from 3rd to 67th percentile.
Hello bb, it looks like the original poster scored 25th percentile, and not 3rd. The reason I thought I will highlight this, is because wondering if your advice about re-taking GMAT just for IR might change.

Hi I similarly sat the GMAT for the first time today and scored a 750 overall (Q48, V44), however I did much worse on the IR section than in all my practise exams. I scored a 4. Usually I scored a 6+. Since this looks a bit out of step with my overall score, and I think I could do better, should I resit the exam? Bearing in mind I really wasn't intending to resit it, I don't think I could push my 750 much higher and I am targeting Stanford MSx (equivalent of the Exec MBA).
I am also wanting to consult with an admissions consultant if you could recommend any. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks, Louise

Go to MBA.com and purchase all the official IR prep materials available: 50 Question with OG13, 50 with Question Pack 1, 50 with Exam Pack 1 and Another 50 with IR Prep tool.
You have 200 official questions solve them 2-3 times and you would score a minimum of 5.

I also recieved a an extremely confusing 3 part question which was just worded so bizzarely that I wasn't really even sure what I was looking for. I spent easily 2-3 minutes just trying to wrap my head around what was going on, I didn't feel like the subject matter was difficulty, just that the question was exceptionally poorly built.

I've heard that employers are going to start using the IR score (specifically consultants). Does anyone have any idea what the benchmarking for that will be and at what score should people be worried? I have an IR score of 6 (67%), which definitely doesn't match up with my quant score (82%). I ran out of time on the last question and so I think I can get a higher score.

Any advice?

Hi,

In my opinion, it is always a good option to retake the GMAT. Most schools look at the highest score. Despite the fact that this is generally the case, it is best to contact a schools admissions office to ask what specifically applies to that school. I would recommend taking a look at the following blog:

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Sincerely,
Evan

Sorry for bumping this issue up again, but it's really important.
So, I have my GMAT in less than a week and while I'm doing really good on the verbal/quant parts (aiming for 760+) I really really suck at IR.
I don't know why, I am an engineer and I deal a lot with data analysis, yet, for some reason I either misunderstand the question (or I read them too fast and do what I think that should be done). I'm usually getting 3-5 (out of 12) and it's a *complain*, I aim at HBS and I'm afraid that such a lousy score on the IR will harm me even though I usually get 51 on math. How would you recommend me use the last days I have to prepare myself for that part? I'm taking the e-gmat online course which I think it's outstanding, it improved my verbal part dramatically, but it's just doesn't help me in the IR part.
I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Fabian

Hi Fabiansc,

Since the day of the test is fast approaching, I thought I'd give a few general tips on IR:

1. Recognize that you will have learned most of IR by studying for the Quantitative and Verbal sections. Study for the IR so you will know what to expect, and--as a result--you will worry less.
2. Just remember: the IR section is only a half hour long and is not part of the 200-800 score.
3. Review the IR question types and formats.
4. In terms of time management, try not to invest too much emotionally into the AWA and IR sections. You should be saving your energies for the Verbal and Quant sections.

I hope this helps. Best of luck on exam day!
