Hi Afnan24,

We last discussed your studies back in early April, so I'd like to know a bit more about how you have been studying over the last 7 months:

1) What type of study routine have you been following? How many hours have you been studying each week?
2) Have you taken any OTHER CATs/mocks over the last 7 months? If so, then on what dates (and how did you score on each CAT - including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores?)?
3) Is your Score Goal still 740+ or is it something else?
4) What are your current application plans?

for improving my score in the verbal section?
Official Mock 2 - 650. V30 Q49.

Here's someone who improved their V31 to a V40 on a retake. May be some quick tips you can leverage.

Have also suggested Manhattan-Prep's 6th Edition for SC and CR to students.

All the best.

1)I have been studying daily for 6 to 7 hours.

2) Have you taken any OTHER CATs/mocks over the last 7 months? This is my first mock in 7 months. Quant took me a while to complete.

3) Is your Score Goal still 740+ or is it something else? - The goal is still 740

4) What are your current application plans? - I was hoping to apply in round 2 for US and European B schools. But now I feel like I might have to push the applications to round 3. Because I am from India, it isn't advised to apply in Round 3, I am not left with a lot of choices

Thanks for the suggestion. I have studied SC and CR from Manhattan guides. They were helpful but not that much.

Hi Afn24,

I went through your excel and did some analysis. I recorded a video to explain my analysis and suggestions. Ideally, we would need more data (a bigger sample size) for this analysis. But, I’m taking the data in your excel for granted to do this (hopefully, this gives you a framework to analyze your quizzes and mocks in the future). Here is my video –

https://gmat750.info/Afn24

Here is the summary of the video –
  1. CR accuracy is not good. When you spend more time per question (on the correct ones). But you also spent a decent time on the questions that you got incorrect.
This shows a timing problem for sure and a problem with conceptual understanding and methodology. You will have to work on both aspects.
But this data is not enough to conclude this (Ideally, we would need more data on about 70 medium and Hard level questions in CR)
  2. You are stronger in SC overall. Both accuracy in hard questions and timing is good. Your concepts and methodology are good. But there could be some weak areas considering your performance in Medium difficulty levels.
  3. In RC, for some reason, the test gave you only Medium level questions. Accuracy is good. But you took a bit more time to get them correct. You have to check your RC accuracy separately in hard-level questions to see if you need to make small changes in approaching RC.
  4. Overall, you are spending more time on CR and RC. We need to fix it so you can complete the test with higher accuracy.
  5. Many times, candidates get 4 RC passages
  6. You must complete the test.
  7. I recommend that you take a SIGma-X mock so that we can give a much better analysis (since it comes with an ESR).

Hope this helps!

Hello Sundeep,
I am extremely thankful and really appreciate that u took out the time for doing such an in-depth analysis of my mock score. I do have to improve my CR methodology. I did untimed practice to understand how to solve the questions. My accuracy in medium CR is 64% and in Hard level CR is 44%.
