Hi, can anyone help me know why in "Arranging People in circle, n people in a circle can be arranged in (n-1)! ways"? Why not n!? I am not able to understand the logic here.

Hi, can anyone help me know why in "Arranging People in circle, n people in a circle can be arranged in (n-1)! ways"? Why not n!? I am not able to understand the logic here.
  • The arrangement of n distinct objects in a row is represented by n!.
  • The arrangement of n distinct objects in a circle is represented by (n-1)!.

The distinction between arranging in a row and in a circle is as follows: if we shift all objects by one position, we achieve a different arrangement in a row, but maintain the same relative arrangement in a circle. Therefore, for the number of circular arrangements of n objects, we have:

  • \(\frac{n!}{n} = (n-1)!\).

In this question, you would consider denominator as 20 or 40 ?

I also got confused here, in the solution the base is actually 20. They considered that reservoir won't be filled.

they must have taken 20 to calculate the current concentration of ammonia?

Maybe because the 1st sentence says "filled to half capacity"? So it would be calculated by half capacity, i.e. 20 liters?
