Harvey flipped a fair coin until he got tails, at which point he stopped. If Harvey stopped after no more than three flips, what is the probability that he didn’t get tails until his third flip? Can somebody please explain exactly when did he stopped? The wording of this question is a bit tricky for me
1/7

Probability that he got Tails on the first flip = 1/2
P(Heads on first flip then Tails on second)=P(HT)=1/2&1/2=1/2*1/2=1/4
P(HHT)=1/2*1/2*1/2=1/8
P(T after one of the above 3 flips) = 1/2 +(or) 1/4 + 1/8 = 7/8
P(A given B) = conditional probability
P(T on third try HHT given that T after one of the 3 flips) = 1/8 / 7/8 = 1/7

@BUNUEL
in the above question if the question didn’t mention "if Harvey stopped after no more than three flips" and just asked what is the probability that he didn’t get tails until his third flip, then the answer would’ve been 1/8?

gmat prep(focus) source questions are from test 1 and 2 only or from other tests as well?

Do the questions under the filter "All OG" overlap with the questions in the official focus mocks?

numbers-415705.html#p3236148

This is a similar question but this has 2^n instead of 2n

Can you please cross-check
