Hi guys, I need your suggestions. I am done with the syllabus, and I’ve been practicing quants for a while now, but somehow I’m not able to improve the Time vs. Accuracy issue. Also, I am unable to strategize practicing all topics everyday so that I do not forget the concepts. Can someone please give a few tips?

Hi! What’s your score right now in Quant based on mocks? I’m not sure if I’m qualified to answer this since I’m myself very early in my prep, but I’m kind of in the same boat but I’ll still share how I’m approaching this in case it’s helpful for you. I am using the Forum quiz to practice quant at least every second day and after every practice session I see which concepts/topics are the most where I’m getting incorrect answers. I’m also basing this data off the three mocks I’ve given so far so now I’m majorly focusing on practicing these topics more. I see what level of questions in a certain topic I’m getting incorrect. For example, probability was very weak for me a few weeks back. So I started with first easy level questions and once I got a good accuracy on them with average time <2mins/question, I now only practice medium ones. Tracking your progress really helps with this. Also, most of my practice sessions are now timed either using GMAT club timer or using Forum Quiz. This approach has really helped me so far in improving both speed + accuracy. As for the topics that I end up de-prioritising for my weaker topics, I aim to do a quant test using the Forum Quiz every 2 weeks to make sure those topics are still under my grasp.

Thank you so much for this. Recently I scored 82 in Quants, previously I was in the 70’s. I’ll imply what you’ve suggested and track my improvement.

Begin with basic questions and gradually progress to more challenging ones, building confidence with each concept.

Maintain an error log and review it frequently.

Prioritize the quality of questions over the quantity.

Hi folks! Need your help and guidance. I’m pretty lost. I’ve been preparing for months now and took two attempts of gmat FE with the same score of 515. After the first attempt I took a months break to focus on DI and Quants ( as I scored 83 on verbal) and tried to work on weak areas however in my next attempt my score still remained the same!! I’m not sure where I’m going wrong.

A couple of questions:
- In your second attempt, did you score worse than the first one in verbal?
- Did your quant score improve in the second attempt?
- How many mocks did you take before your first and second attempt and what was your score in the mocks?

Hi, in my second attempt my verbal was 81. Before my first I took mocks and scored in the range of 505-525 so I knew my first attempt would not be very different. Before the second attempt in mocks I was getting 575-585 but still ended up with 515 on main exam.

Looks like your verbal score dropped a bit. And I’m assuming your quant and DI score didn’t improve significantly in the second attempt which is why the overall score dropped. So from this I can say maybe you need more practice in Quant and DI? How much practice you actually need really depends on your target score.
I’m not sure how well we can translate a 575-585 on mocks to the actual score on GMAT, but what’s your target score? I feel that one should at least get a 25 score bump in 2-3 mocks consistently to reach their target score in the actual exam. Even the best mocks will never give you a true picture of your actual exam score.

It sounds ridiculous saying it out loud given my history of scores but I do need to get to 665-675.

I’d say hold off giving the actual exam unless you get an average score of 650 in 2-3 mocks without much fluctuation in the scores? But with this at least you have a clear path to getting better. Of course, you might want to define a realistic timeline to get that kind of improvement, say 3 months, 6 months or even a month, whatever you’re comfortable with and feel confident about.
By the way no judgements there, I’ve been prepping for almost 4 months now and haven’t even touched 600 in mocks yet. My target score is somewhat similar to yours but I’m following the same rule - practice till you score consistently in a +/-25 score range of your target score.

Any final tips? I am giving my exam on September 4th. I am quite stressed. I am targeting a score of 655. I have been scoring around 635-655 in my recent mocks.

Spend extra couple of seconds just to re-check your answer. Scoring algorithm is so weird these days that incorrectly answering even a single "easy" question will fetch a high penalty. A little extra caution will help a lot! Wishing you the best!

Hi guys
A question! Might be stupid but i saw a post somewhere where they said after your gmat is over, you can now see where u stand among other candidates who have applied to the same schools as you. Is that true?

Yes, but not right after the exam is over. Once you get your official score in mba.com, you get to choose 5 schools to send your score to for free. Once that is done, within 24-48 hours, your scores will be sent and in that score tab (on mba.com), you can see your percentile v/s other candidates who have applied to that particular school in the past 5 years
