In a series of matches, the home team and the away team won 35% and 45% of the matches respectively. The winning team is awarded 2 points and the losing team is awarded 0 points, while a draw gives 1 point to both teams. Given that the home team had accumulated 270 points at the end of the tournament, how many matches were played in total?

Can some let me know the answer with an explanation?

2 points each for 35% of the Total games [WON] AND 1 point each for (100 - (35+45)) = 20% of the games [DRAW]......This is equal to 270 points in total....Mathematically, [(35/100)*TotalGames]*2 (points) + [(20/100)*TotalGames]*1(point) = 270.....This gives TotalGames = 300

Four men working together all day can finish a piece of work in 11 days ; but two of them
having other engagements can work only one half-time and quarter time respectively. How long
will it take them to complete the work?

How do I solve this?

4 men, 24 hours a day for 11 days= 4*24*11= 1056 working hours.

Now we’ve got 24+24+12+6= 66 working hours. Divide required working hours by available hours a day. 1056/66= 16 days

that is the working hours per man

according to the question they work all day(24 hours) and get a work done in 11 days. however 2 can only work for half a day(12 hours) and quarter of a day(6 hours)

I took a different approach, which helped me solve it orally.

Let 1 man work 4 units/day. (I took 4 units because half and quarter would be simpler when we solve the question further. You can take any number)

That makes 4 men work 16units/day.

Total units = 11*16 = 176 units to be completed.

Earlier, 4 men were working 16units/day and that’s how they completed in 11 days.

Now, 2 men are working at usual 4units/day. 3rd man is working at 2units/day and 4th man is working at 1 unit/day.

Total units of work done in 1 day is 4+4+2+1 = 11.

Total work to be done 176 units.

176/11 = 16 days.
